OCTOBER ELECTION SURPRISES!
Guest opinion by Don Bendell
We Americans are all members of one giant dysfunctional family. Are we the uninformed victims of an addict, our collective heads buried deep in the sandpit of denial? When we tire of the misery from the choking sands and darkness, and hit our bottom, we will yank our heads up into the bright light of reason and discernment. I pray that it happens today, before it is too late.
I have been a grateful recovering alcoholic for almost 36 years, and married to a recovering alcoholic for over 23 years. Overcoming denial as an alcoholic was chump-change compared to hitting my bottom as the victim/enabler/provoker of an addicted loved one. When I hopped off that merry-go-round of denial, she soon followed.
The term hitting bottom also applies to other areas, even the aberrant behavior and tasteless boundary-violations exhibited during some Presidential elections, like this one. We must all now overcome collective denial to save our country, our children, our very way of life.
Some politicians are addicted to power and control, and others simply want to serve and make our country better.
George W. Bush drank alcoholically when he was much younger, but President George W. Bush addressed that problem in his past.
Power and control are John Kerrys drugs of choice. They always have been. If you dont believe me, I challenge you to end the denial, stop putting it off, and watch [1] STOLEN HONOR WOUNDS THAT NEVER HEAL (for free). It is real and is not a FARENHEIT 911 with its 56 outright lies. If you can take 42 minutes and simply watch it and still vote for John Kerry, then you are probably minimizing, another major form of denial.
We Vietnam veterans have been John Kerrys victims, but so has the rest of America. Many more Americans who joined the past and current anti-war movement have been his enablers. Some of us have also been his provokers.
I challenge you to go to a website [2] and read volumes of very positive testimony about George W. Bush as a pilot, by his fellow officers and his superiors who served with him. Or you can go to a different website [3] and read volumes of very negative testimony about John F. Kerry as a Swift Boat officer by his fellow officers and his superiors who served with him. Of course, Kerry will then label them dishonorable and provoke them into a heated argument and end up trying to make George W. Bush the victim. What else is new?
When we are drinking or drugging, we will say or do anything to protect our addiction. In Kerrys case it is enslavement to the power of the Presidency. An example of just some of his lies, [4] translated Viet Cong documents just uncovered and reported about in WorldNetDaily.com indicated that the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong actually directed the US anti-war movement through John Kerry and some of his cohorts.
Another major lie was unearthed October 25th [5] by the WASHINGTON TIMES. Kerry has bragged many times, even in the first debate, that he met with the entire 15-member National Security Council of the UN before deciding to vote for the War in Iraq (which he later voted against funding). The article proves it was all another big lie.
Here is another whopper: Jumping on the NEW YORK TIMES and CBS News story about the supposed missing 380 tons of ammunition from a large dump in Iraq, Kerry and Edwards continue to slam our President and our military commanders in Iraq for not securing the explosives, even though an NBC reporter on October 26 said he was imbedded with the 101st during the Iraqi invasion and the explosives were not even there. And the 3rd Infantry fought there on that April 4th and there were no labels or locks on the bunkers then.
Like a true leader and commander-in-chief, President Bush calmly ordered an immediate investigation, while John Kerry started using the incident to bash-Bush, with no investigation into the details or circumstances surrounding the case. But more importantly, he slandered our military leadership in Iraq, too, but people do not care who they hurt when they are drunk with power.
And now, John A. Shaw, the US Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for International Technology Security, said in an interview with the WASHINGTON TIMES, that he has information that the Russian Special Forces, working with Iraqi intelligence, "almost certainly" removed the high-explosive material that was missing from the Al-Qaqaa facility, south of Baghdad, and transported it to Syria shortly before our troops invaded Iraq, so Russia would not have egg on its face.
Kerry does not care. He wants his fix. Hell say anything to manipulate us. America, it is now time for us to set our boundaries, for John F. Kerry to finally become responsible for his addictive behavior and his actions. He needs to go cold turkey on his insatiable quest for the power of the Presidency.
It is just a few days before the most important Presidential election ever. This is NOT a Republican-Democrat thing. This election is about honesty and dishonesty, looking Presidential versus being Presidential, talking the talk versus walking the walk, character, earning the respect of our fighting men and women, but more than anything, it is about the security of our nation, not the cost of health care. Costs of nothing matters not if you are dead.
Besides choosing the commander-in-chief during a time of war, you can, with your vote, finally give Vietnam veterans the celebration they deserve, and finally make us victors, or you can push us back into that familiar role of victim.
If you vote to re-elect President George W. Bush, Vietnam veterans will at long last have the overdue national day of recognition we never got. We will become drunk on adulation, get high on recognition, and then we will all crash with a smile of closure on our collective faces, after all these years.
According to October polls, over 80 percent of Vietnam veterans and over 75 percent of active duty military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan now want George W. Bush for President. More importantly, Usama bin Laden and his ilk will be cursing their luck more than John Edwards witnessing a rear-end collision and being out of business cards.
Yes, Kerrys actions three decades ago do make a major difference in our national security now, because John Kerry has lusted for that seductive call to the White House, but only to be served, and also to sate his thirst for power; Not, to serve all of us instead. He has lied for that fix, and he will manipulate and lie some more, until we hit our bottom and say, Its over!
Tuesday, November 2nd, when you get in the privacy of that voting booth, use your common sense and think about how you felt on September 11, 2001, the day that America wept. George W. Bush calmly, but with a steely resolve, took up the reins of power with courage and level-headedness; and a few days later, swore to firefighters and police officers at Ground Zero that he would not forget, and President Bush has not forgotten. 4 out of 5 of us who served in Vietnam have not forgotten either. We never will.
This is a very sobering issue. We can fight them over there now, or we will end up fighting them here in America very soon, but fight them we must or we will perish. President Bush understands this. John Kerry does not. He is too consumed with the addictive drug of power and control. The time for denial is over, America.

Keeping in tune with the jest of your article, do you think pot has anything to do with many Americans inability to see Kerry for what he is? I cannot fathom why anyone would support this man and being drugged is about the only thing I can come up with. What do you think?
