October 28, 2004. I respect Mel Gibson. Actually, as a 45-year-old WASP housewife, I swoon over him in the movies, desperately avoiding adultery in my heart. My husband has learned to deal with that. (I lived in Australia as a child and was sick when he lost his Aussie accent because it was so sexy!) But you know youve reached a level of maturity when you can still admire a celebrity and disagree with them. Either that, or a comfortable level of compromise. And now I ask the same from Mel.
This morning on Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer interviewed Mel Gibson about his opinions regarding stem-cell research. And Ive good news to report: his thoughts on stem-cells are Biblically based and he uses his money and his status to support this position. His admissions that he would not used embryonic stem cells to save his life or the life of his child admirable and righteous.
Then Diane inquired, so you wont be voting for John Kerry? To which Mel replied with disgust at the presidential election as Gods gift of lemons whereby we must make lemonade.
To which I ask, Mel! Are you saying this to please your liberal Hollywood friends while in your heart wishing George Bush were more conservative?
Ive been witness to the kind of brethren who say The lesser of two evils is still evil. Ive had friends who were so conspiracy-minded that they just couldnt get past 41 and 43 belonging to the Skull and Bones, the Illuminati, and The Jelly of the Month Club! So far right that they think Rush Limbaugh and Barbra Streisand would make a lovely couple. Tell me this is not how it is, Mel!
A few months ago when Sawyer interview Mel about the Passion of the Christ, he made an off-handed comment about the weapons of mass destruction. Whats your problem with George Bush, Mel? And is it in any way influenced by your friend, Jack Nicholson? Would you rather compromise with old Jack than with your vote?
Since you wont just come out and tell us what you really think about the President, Im gonna tell you what I think about the president. After all, you said, Everyone has an opinion. Thats right but nobody has a right to be wrong about the facts. And the facts are that you might be hurting the presidents chance at re-election by seeking someone who perfectly fits your ideals. A president is supposed to represent us, not embody every aspect of our beliefs. Were not electing a pope! And thank God for that since Im a Southern Baptist.
George Bush is an honorable man whom my family prays for every day. He has sought our pastors advice and our congregations prayers - just as you sought our pastors help distributing and promoting your movie.
Here are some facts: President Bush worked from some of the same intel as Sadaam Huessein had. He didnt start this war and he didnt go into Iraq primarily for WMDs. Im glad that the terrorists are being whipped in their country and not ours (America or Australia).
I assume that your complaint is what President Bush is not doing. I could go on with more facts but you probably know all that. I know youll probably vote for President Bush but your less Pharisee-ical support could have meant a lot to our cause. The cause of living and worshiping in peace.
Well pray for you Mel just as we have done. We appreciate how God used you to produce The Passion. I hope I can be used of God as well - although in a much smaller way, I'm sure. If God can use a speaking donkey, surely he can use me. I just have to remember that when all the talking was done, Balaams ass was still a donkey.

Excuse your arrogance. The Catholic condemns abortion at any cost. A Catholic vote for Bush is a vote, technically, for "the lesser of two evils", since he supports it in rape, incest, and life of the mother.
I know it angers some people when Catholics dare to be Catholic in public, but I don't think he needs your prayers, to be quite honest.
I'll pray for you, too.
So you disagree with Gibson being against embryonic stem cells?
Please. Gibson is being anal in his comments about Bush.
Supporting Bush is perfectly fine, since he actually has a chance to DO something about abortion, as opposed to clowns like Peroutka, who won't get 200,000 votes.
No, I agree with him on that. If stem-cell research is important enough for Gibson to involve his money and his popularity and Bush is aligned with him on that issue, then he should support the President for that. He didn't do that on television this morning.
What does Mel Gibson want? Does he think a vote for a third candidate is going to advance that particular cause?
Gibson would probably have problems with the pope as well.
As far as a conspiracy-theorist, Gibson believes in the New World Order, Illuminati and all of that stuff. He believes Clinton is a globalist/Rhodes scholar communist. IOW, he has his eyes open to reality.
Rabbi Lapin on why religious Americans must vote (excerpt):
Why would so many otherwise patriotic and law-abiding citizens avoid the ballot box? It turns out that large numbers of fervent Christian and traditional Jewish conservatives plan not to vote because they cant bring themselves to vote for an imperfect candidate.
Um, not entirely. The reality is, if there are a lot of people who seek perfection instead of a general representation in a candidate, they'll get neither.
