I'm interested to know whether people think the following scenario is remotely possible:
1) A major terrorist event occurs in Washington DC 3 days prior to the election, causing political gridlock and martial law. Congress unable to conduct business and voters unable to attend polls. Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Cincinati and Miami go to threat level red.
2) Shortly after election day polls close, results for Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania and 3 other battleground states are too close to call. Democratic party declares fraud and begins filing court actions.
3) Angry Kerry supporters organize widespread protest and civil disobedience in the east and west coast. Organized and sporadic incidents of vandalism and violence, though use of flash mobs, cannot be stopped by police.
4) Neither John Kerry nor George Bush can concede the election: Bush dispatched guard troops to assist local law enforcement in quelling flash mob protests and car bombings in major cities.
5) The US stock market and futures markets begin to erode as terrorist investors and known financial arbitraguers take profits.
6) Three days after the election, simultaneous explosions disrupt Alaska oil pipeline and California refineries, causing oil futures rise to $100 plus. Within days, gas pump prices hit $4 per gallon.
7) Supreme Court is overwhelmed with emergency petitions from both political parties. Court resolution of the election drags on. Congress cannot convene and Secret Service on highest possible alert. President Bush politically unable to act decisively. Democratic campaign leaders, vowing not to concede another election without a fight, fuel civil unrest. Markets start to crash.
8) John Kerry condemns sitting President as corrupt, claiming Bush administration of attempting to steal the election again. Kerry vows to exercise every legal and financial means to contest the electon, leaving the country in political paralysis.
9) 14 days after the election, Kerry takes election dispute to the airwaves. Bush finally reacts, calling emergency session of Congress. Angered and incited by news mainstream media reports of Republican vote fraud, massive demonstrations leading to riots start occurring in San Francisco, Washington DC, Seattle and New York.
10) Citizens in those cities begin arming themselves publicly as local law enforcement overwhelmed by violence and vandalism.
11) Movie ends. Credits roll. People leave the movie theatre.

The citizens of San Francisco, Washington DC, Seattle and New York generally don't own anything more deadly than an abortion doctor or two. They cannot arm themselves.
