Deep thoughts by EvenKeel

I have often wondered how we the American people have evolved (or is that devolved) into these two (mainly) so radically different political groups.

On one hand we have the liberal left who for what ever reason see only the negative side of the facts. They tend to look for any phrase that can be twisted to their view of what the facts should be and they dare not look at the whole picture for fear of seeing the real world.

Then we have the conservatives on the right of whom I have found a bastion of sorts here on Free Republic. Whose views tend to lean towards looking at all of the facts and to back up those facts with substantiated evidence.

It really is almost a yen/yang thing. Two sides of a coin opposite in almost every way.

Another thing I have noticed is that even when listening to conservative vs. liberal talk radio the Left tends to run off of spin, propaganda and partial quotes taken out of context using fear, anger and ignorance to fuel their engines. The Right seems to throw out rational thought out ideas and views that I would think most people could understand. Every once in a while I stumble across an obviously leftist talk show and just can't help but shake my head in disbelief at some of the rhetoric that they spew. But then I listen to the guys leaning Middle/Right and I feel like these are intelligent people I can relate to.

I have always considered myself an open minded person. Willing to listen to other peoples views and to make my own conclusions on issues based upon my own research and ideas. I know that my background and upbringing has molded me into a somewhat middle of the road kind of person. But In some ways this election has solidified my view on where I think I stand in the regards to politics. I am pro Bush but do have some issue with some of his policies but I know on a whole he is the right man for the job and Kerry is not even close in that regard. Until recently I didn't even consider myself a republican (if that is not too blasphemous to relate here), I always thought it was the person and what they did that mattered and not the party he/she was affiliated. Naive I know. I have since regarded myself as a Republican and that is mainly because most of the people I relate to have the same values and ideals I do are Republicans. Not that there are some conservative ideas I don't agree with or even a few liberal ideas I do agree with but if we were putting my views on a scale it would definitely lean a lot more to the Right than to the Left.

Why am I spouting all of this? Well I guess as a new member of this forum community I wanted to splash some of my thoughts on the wall and see how they look.

Welcome, and thank you for your service, even if J F'ng Kerry doesn't believe service in the Reserves counts.

Let me point out that the people who identify themselves as liberals are for the most part not really liberals. They are leftists.
They support the philosophy of wealth redistribution and government control of individual's lives.
This is where the polarization manifests itself. It is impossible to reconcile their philosophy with traditional American values.
