Leftist blogger Atrios has gone off the deep end, selectively quoting President Bush in an attempt to make the point that Kerry was misled about exactly he voted for in regards to the Iraq conflict, peace or war... because he couldn't make his point if he DIDN'T selectively quote.

Atrios wrote:

Let's consider Bush's recent rhetoric. His latest ad says "Kerry voted for the Iraq war."

When he asked Congress for the resolution, when Andy Card rolled it out after Labor Day, Bush claimed it was a vote for peace:

You want to keep the peace, you've got to have the authorization to use force. But it's -- this will be -- this is a chance for Congress to indicate support. It's a chance for Congress to say, we support the administration's ability to keep the peace.

Interestingly, but not surprisingly, Atrios left out the Oval Office press conference he quoted:

Question: Mr. President, how important is it that that resolution give you an authorization of the use of force?

The President: That will be part of the resolution, the authorization to use force. If you want to keep the peace, you've got to have the authorization to use force. But it's -- this will be -- this is a chance for Congress to indicate support. It's a chance for Congress to say, we support the administration's ability to keep the peace. That's what this is all about.

Question: Will regime change be part of it?

The President: Yes. That's the policy of the government.

Atrios continues:

At the time he signed the resolution, he claimed it was a vote for peace.

Bush: Our goal is not merely to limit Iraq's violations of Security Council resolutions, or to slow down its weapons program. Our goal is to fully and finally remove a real threat to world peace and to America. Hopefully this can be done peacefully.

The "hopefully" part of course was up to Saddam. He failed, again.

President Bush made very clear the purpose fo the resolution in the same speech, and it isn't what Atrios represented it to be. In fact, Atrios only quoted half of one paragraph above... because the rest of the paragraph makes clear the point which he would like to obfuscate.

Bush: ...Hopefully we can do this without any military action.

Yet, if Iraq is to avoid military action by the international community, it has the obligation to prove compliance with all the world's demands. It's the obligation of Iraq.

Atrios continues:

He claimed then it was a vote for peace. He told Congress it was a vote for peace. He then says that the vote for peace that he asked John Kerry to make was actually a vote for war. The previous March he'd said, "F*ck Saddam, we're taking him out." So, he told people it was a vote for peace even though he'd decided it was a vote for war. Maybe war is peace. Who the hell knows anymore.

Sure, we all knew in October what this vote was really for, and Kerry should have too. But, it wasn't what Bush said.

Yo, Atrios.

Did Kerry read the title of the resolution that he voted for? You know, the one called "Joint Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq. " It couldn't be any more plainly worded than that!

Atrios, unlike you, some of us have a longer memory than the last DNC talking points memo we are faxed. (The Blogspirator gets replicas of them along with his weekly checks from Richard Mellon Scaife and the ZOG. Snicker, snicker. So, we know what you are up to.)

Here are some more quotes from Senator Kerry which shows that he wasn't duped into voting for anything - he was on the same page.

KERRY: "I think we clearly have to keep the pressure on terrorism globally. This doesn't end with Afghanistan by any imagination. And I think the president has made that clear. I think we have made that clear. Terrorism is a global menace. It's a scourge. And it is absolutely vital that we continue, for instance, Saddam Hussein." (CNN's "Larry King Live," 12/14/01)


CHRIS MATTHEWS: "Do you think that the problem we have with Iraq is real and it can be reduced to a diplomatic problem? Can we get this guy to accept inspections of those weapons of mass destruction potentially and get past a possible war with him?"

KERRY: "Outside chance, Chris. Could it be done? The answer is yes. But he would view himself only as buying time and playing a game, in my judgment. Do we have to go through that process? The answer is yes. We're precisely doing that. And I think that's what Colin Powell did today." (MSNBC "Hardball," 2/5/02)

Then, after the war had started..,

KERRY: "George, I said at the time I would have preferred if we had given diplomacy a greater opportunity, but I think it was the right decision to disarm Saddam Hussein, and when the President made the decision, I supported him, and I support the fact that we did disarm him." (ABC News Democrat Presidential Candidates Debate, Columbia, SC, 5/3/03)

Atrios, you're going to have to try harder next time!

I'll agree with you on that one. Not only has he went off the deep end, But has also gotten extremely desperate. With the polls going more in Bush's favor, watch for atrios and his ilk get even more desperate.

By definition, irrational people are incapable of rational thought. I'm convinced that these kinds of people are beyond help. All we can do is hope that they've given up their guns (as all good liberals should) and are therefore unable to shoot themselves or others on the 3rd of November.
