Is Laura(Lara) Logan of CBS 60 Minutes II Joe Lockhart's wife?
Posted on 09/22/2004 7:45:53 AM PDT by trashcanbred
Hi can anyone tell me of Joe Lockhart is married to CBS 60 Minutes correspondent Laura Logan? Joe Lockhart has a wife named "Laura Logan" and they reside in Washington.
According to Google articles he left the Clinton administration to move to London to work for Skynews...
http://www.post-gazette.com/seen/breakfast/20001113break1.asp
Lockhart is a former television journalist with ABC News, SKY Television News of London and CNN
According to her bio on the CBS News web site she also worked for Sky:
During the period 1996-99, Logan undertook several freelance assignments: as a correspondent for ITN and Fox/SKY, an assignment editor for CBS News and ABC News
CBSNews Bio
If this is true then why have I not read of this connection before? It would seem pretty important especially in light of the fact that CBS contacted Lockhart??

The CBS correspondent spells her first name "Lara," not "Laura." You'll have to do more digging to find out if they're the same person.

Both individuals seem to have a lot in common as to moving to London, working for ABC and SkyNews. If Lockhart's wife works for CBS News... would that not seem very odd.
Anyway I am just trying to see if anyone has access to a who's who DB or something that might be able to confirm or deny this for me.

Well most of the Bio's I saw only mention Lockhart's wife as Laura(actually it was the same Bio over and over). If you think about it they could very well mispell her name to Laura (cause that is the most common spelling).
From the "Laura Logan" that is Lockhart's wifedid work on the John Glenn pesidential campaign in the 80's but that is all I know from the Lockhart's wife's connection so far.
Hence it is why I am posting this here to see if greater minds know more than I do.

I don't see where Lockhart moved to London. It said he worked for Sky News, but he could've been based in the Washington area as a correspondent. The interview also doesn't say when Lockhart worked for Sky News--he could've worked for them prior to working for the WH or afterwards (same for ABC). You'll need to get more detailed biographies of both of them for comparison.

Sorry I downloaded a number of posts and I got this from Media Watch dated October 5, 1998:
http://secure.mediaresearch.org/news/mediawatch/1998/mw19981005rv.html When his wife Laura Logan, Deputy Press Secretary for John Glenn's 1984 presidential run, was transferred to London by her employer, ABC News, Lockhart followed and landed a slot with the nemesis of liberals: Rupert Murdoch. Kurtz recounted: "He applied for a producer's job at British-based Sky News and was stunned when executives there wanted him for on-air work....Soon his daily business reports were running back home on Fox, albeit at 5 a.m. Sky News dispatched him to Washington to report on the Gulf War, but...his program was later canceled." Back in the U.S. he worked for the Clinton campaign, then assumed the Deputy Press Secretary slot at the White House.

Is there a better way to post this question up here so that people can see it and confirm or deny it? I assumed this would be the right spot? (sorry still newbie).
I am still trying to get an accurate timeline but at the moment I can't do it and work at the same time (go figure?).

Will bring it to a few people's attention (some have large ping lists.....others are just good researchers
Post your information and the sources so they'll have a place to start. You may have found the missing link...or it may just be a coincidense.

Lara and Laura, spelled differently, I believe. Maybe not the same person. Lockhart and his wife have a 10 year old daughter.

My name is often spelled differently by people who don't know me....There are many names that have multiple spelling....Cathy/Kathy Bryan/Brian Lara/Laura......misspelling would not be uncommon.

Here are a couple of hints:
The son of journalists and the husband of a longtime ABC producer, Lockhart was spinning through the revolving door between media and politics long before that phrase became fashionable." Indeed, he has bounc-ed back and forth since his father, an executive with NBC News, landed him a volunteer spot in Carter's 1980 reelection campaign.
When his wife Laura Logan, Deputy Press Secretary for John Glenn's 1984 presidential run, was transferred to London by her employer, ABC News, Lockhart followed and landed a slot with the nemesis of liberals:

The CBS Lara seems a little young to be the one who had a heavy job in 1984.

CBS's Logan & CNN's Amanpour Don't
Appreciate Clarke's Advice
CBS's Lara Logan and CNN's Christiane Amanpour didn't appreciate Pentagon spokesman Torie Clarke's advice that a war zone is a dangerous place.
Logan concluded her April 8 CBS Evening News story from Baghdad: Baghdad is a dangerous location a U.S. spokesman said today. No one here needed to be told that. On CNN on Tuesday afternoon, Amanpour, in Kuwait, lectured: I would say that most of the journalists who are there [in Baghdad] have got a lot more experience in risky situations in war than some of the spokespeople who are giving out those comments.
On Tuesday morning, Logan, who is staying at the Palestine hotel, expressed empathy with the citizens on Baghdad. She lamented on the April 8 Early Show: The one thing I want to say about this though, it brings it home to us because we're here on the ground. But this is happening to Iraqi families right across Baghdad."
Later, on Tuesday's CBS Evening News, Logan asserted: The Pentagon claims they were returning enemy fire, but none of he journalists at he hotel heard or saw anything to support that claim. She concluded: Baghdad is a dangerous location a U.S. spokesman said today. No one here needed to be told that.
Dan Rather, anchoring from Kuwait City, balanced Logan with the military's point of view, running this clip of Major General Stanley McChrystal at the Pentagon briefing: From the beginning, we have specifically said it would be dangerous and difficult. You put yourself in heir position, they had he inherent right of self defense. When hey are fired at they have not only the right to respond, they have the obligation to respond to protect the soldiers with them.
At about 2:30pm EDT on Tuesday, the MRC's Rich Noyes noticed,
Christiane Amanpour was in high dungeon, demanding over the Palestine hotel incident: I think it bears a really thorough investigation, firstly about what happened and why they were hit. And secondly, the Pentagon has been essentially all over the place. The military spokesmen have been all over the map on their response to this.
First it was because there was, quote, sniper fire from the lobby, then from the roof, then from somewhere in the area, then it was significant fire. There's a lot of differing explanations that are coming out. All of the journalists that I have monitored throughout the day have reported that they heard absolutely no sniper fire or any other fire coming from there. They were on the roofs there. And I think essentially, essentially what we have here is we have to balance what happened.
If there was sniper fire from there, is the response legitimately tank fire into a hotel that is known by everybody -- by everybody to house international journalists? Is, in other words, is the risk to the forces coming from that hotel, if, indeed, there were sniper shots, which journalists there say they didn't hear, is the legitimate response -- and are the orders of American forces to respond to sniper fire towards their tanks by firing a tank shell, I think that's a legitimate question that has not yet been answered, and what happened today poses and raises very significant issues and very significant questions.
Wolf Blitzer wondered: So what are you, you heard Victoria Clarke, the Pentagon press spokeswoman, suggest earlier -- she had 300 conversation with various news organizations saying, Look, a war is an inherently dangerous situation. We can't guarantee your safety. If you stay in various hotels, you're taking your life into your own hands because the Iraqis themselves might use you, in effect, as human shields, thinking that the U.S. military won't respond because you're there. And she says that simply is not going to wash.
Amanpour retorted: Number one, I would say that most of the journalists who are there have got a lot more experience in risky situations in war than some of the spokespeople who are giving out those comments. Number two, in the first Gulf War, the Al Rasheed was off limits for hitting because journalists were in there. And number three, even if there were Iraqi officials in there, were they firing, and were they holding journalists as hostages or human shields? There's no evidence of that.
Blitzer pointed out, however: Well, there is a little bit of evidence of that. John Burns, who is an excellent reporter for the New York Times, he did suggest that were Iraqi security guys going into that hotel, staying there and preventing those journalists who might want to leave from relocating to, perhaps, a different location. You read that in the New York Times today?
Amanpour: Yes, I did, but the question remains, the question remains of proportionate response, and was there fire coming out of there, and is the proportionate response, to a civilian building, which is where all the journalists were, to fire at it with a tank? And in my view, that's a major question that needs to be answered urgently.
