Hi fellow Freepers. I just got this e-mail from one of my misguided Liberal Dem friends. I don't know how to answer this, because, I don't know if it's true. Does anyone out there have some info on this? Is it a Democratic dirty trick, playing on the fears of mothers everywhere? I would love to reply to my friend with some concrete information. I know Israel has a mandatory draft, and it's a good thing, but I'm not sure how well it would go over here in USA.

This is not a serious legislative proposal. It's a boogyman.
A draft will be required if john f kerry is elected. If Kerry loses, Osama will be killed or captured and peace will return to Iraq.

They're spreading stories about the Bush administration attempting to reinstate the draft in an attempt to shore us support from toung people and blacks.
Rumsfeld, among others in the administration, has said that there is no thought of bringing back the draft — none!
The bills have not moved from committee in their originating house in the two years since they were introduced. They are going nowhere.
I hope it does pass. Rangel and the Dems will have a lota splainin' to do.

You are on the money. A Demoncrat, Hoolings is sponsor of Senate bill. The ubiquitious Demoncrat Rangel is sponsor of House bill. Both pieces of legislation are as dead as liberal ethics and patriotism.

Ask them why would a DemocRAT like Charlie Rangel (one of the bill's sponsors, which are all DemocRATs) sponsor a bill that a Republican administration wants passed "quietly"???? Do they think he just wants to "help" George Bush?

The Liberals haven't been able to convince the American people that a voluntary Army being sent to perform the duties it was trained and paid to do is wrong. They want a draft so unwilling participants poorly trained will be killed enmasse so the public will express outrage as in Vietnam and we lose the war.
They want the death of our children to win back their power.

This is a scare tactic.
The selective service draft was elimnated over 20 years ago if it were being reistated or even considered it would be all over the main stream media. This is for a civil service draft. whom ever the leftist nitwit that sent this did not even read the bill.
It is asking for Civil service draft it is introduce and supported by Charles Rangel on of the very left's best.
Basicilly what is stating is they would like to require two years mandatory service in federal,state, or local orginization that provides a civil service to the us or abroad such as the peace corps or something like that this is not a military draft far from it. It does have a provison for a military draft is nesecarry, but since the all voulenteer military is working well and they are getting new recruits and meeting there qoutas it is unlikely that it would ever be used.
There other way that I look at it is, If you appricate the freedoms that this country has afforded you, you owe at least two years of you life in service to you country. If they are unwilling to pay that price for freedom perhaps they should be looking elsewhere to live.
