Anti-Kerry author draws both sides

Sunday, August 29, 2004

By MELISSA GRIFFY Repository staff writer

JACKSON TWP. — Though those buying an anti-Kerry book at Borders Books & Music on Saturday vastly outnumbered the dozen Kerry supporters protesting the book, the group didn’t go unnoticed.

Some drivers blared their cars’ horns in support as they rode past the group, which was holding John Kerry signs near the Portage Street NW entrance of The Strip. Still others literally gave the Kerry supporters a thumbs down.

One of the authors of “Unfit for Command,” Jerome Corsi, signed books for area residents at Borders, at 6751 Strip Ave. NW.

The book accuses the Democratic presidential nominee of lying about his decorated wartime record and betraying comrades after returning from Vietnam by alleging widespread atrocities by U.S. troops. “Unfit for Command” was Borders’ top-selling title last week.

Gust Andrews of Massillon said he had planned to protest the book signing, but after security personnel forced the group off the Borders property, the group turned to peacefully displaying Kerry signs to incoming traffic.

Andrews, a disabled Navy Persian Gulf veteran, said he thinks Kerry is a genuine war hero.

Kevin Turkovich of Norton disagreed. Also a veteran, Norton said there are some holes in Kerry’s stories.

“The biggest alarm to me is, where are his fellow veterans?” asked Turkovich.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Certainly not by this writer, who chose to focus on the small group of protestors rather than the large crowd seeking autographs...

Glad to see Dr. Corsi is out there!

Also, the new ad buy has just been announced. I think I heard it at around 850,000 dollars and they are buying time on FOX! this will mean more national exposure!
