Have you heard about the "Hugs" project yet? It's a really great group of people who are dedicated to sewing and sending evaporative cooling ties to our troops in the "sandbox". We have already sent out over 20,000 homemade "hugs", which sounds like a lot until you consider that we have over 145,000 people in the desert right now. Cooling ties are simple to make but the benefits are dramatic, they can lower body temperatures by 1 to 4 degrees. They can also be microwaved this winter to use as reusable hand warmers.
We need more people making and sending out "hugs" to our troops and so we're asking you to help us get the word out. Right now we're working to outfit 3,000 Marines in one unit. They are in the midst of the fighting and they need a morale booster in the worst way. If you think you might be interested in helping out, please send an email to: thehugsproject@cox.net with freerepublic in the subject line and you'll be sent all the information needed to get you started either making "hugs" or at least forwarding the info & telling others how to do it. Each one of us is funding our own efforts, buying our own material, supplies and postage. These hugs cost about 50 cents to $1 each to construct there is nothing I can think of that you could buy and send to the military people in the Middle East that they would appreciate more. It was 118 in the desert today and they are really suffering from the heat.
Maybe you have a loved one serving in the desert but even if not, please consider if it were your son or daughter over there, your husband or wife. How good would you feel if a group of strangers wanted to give them a "hug" and say, "we appreciate your service to your country"?
Thank you for taking time to read this message. It is a one time request for help. If you aren't interested, just ignore and I won't ask you about helping again.

How about posting the instructions?
Yep! At least some clue as to the materials and work would help us know if we are qualified to help your efforts.
I guess we're supposed to click on the links to find out what the project entails but question. Why can't they be posted here?
TNT
I clicked on all the links, and I Googled the group, but all I got was a pix of nine women who were being honored for their work, and NO instructions. LOL
Thank you. I stink at HTML.
You all can do a Google or Yahoo search to get instructions for cooling ties.
The letter I send out to all the people who ask is 8 pages long and includes directions about CARE packages as well as "Hugs". Also included are tips for labeling, shipping and using the cooling ties as hand warmers in winter. It's just too long to post here so email thehugsproject@cox.net if you want to join the project and make "hugs" or else go here http://www.watersorb.com/polymer_cool_neck_bands.htm and make regular cooling ties.
