Copyright compliant by USA Today means I cannot post. But here is the link.
Still, it makes its way into dino-media. And that's better than last week.
Google web sites mentioning "Kerry and Cambodia" - 155,000. The story is only about 2-3 weeks old.
1. Another dino-media, Old News paper brings out the story. That's good.
2. From a Context and Objectivity standpoint the article would not pass muster - an F. Why? Because USA Today uses a huge revelation to hit on Swift Vets with an unsubstantiated charge. The paper could have focused exclusively on what a presidential candidate has described as a life-changing event, now with major cracks. In other words, and many of us have made this point several times, YOU DON'T NEED ANY SWIFT VETS TO CALL MAJOR BS ON KERRY's CLAIM. All you need is to know enough about when Nixon took office, and when the Khmer Rouge took the field. Trust me, had this been about Bush, USA would have done the main story about Cambodia, then did a follow-up with Bush comrades in the form of the Swift-Vets.
3. This is hit and run journalism of the Clinton kind. Now they can say they 'covered' this obvious lie, later say it's 'old news,' and actially use it to attack the Swift Vets. Liberal Media Bias Big Time!
4. Look for more stories in the coming hours and days that use this same framework. But also know that the many people I am sure we have all made aware of this are going to be seeing the same bias we have identified.
