There has been some discussion as to whether or not Saddam can get a fair trial. I think it's a rather silly question myself, since the trial is a formality at this point. It's one of those things that we're doing just because it has the appearance of being more legitimate than just hanging him right away. There's probably more to it, such as using it as a way to show the world what Saddam has done, but the one purpose that this trial doesn't serve is making a real decision on whether or not he's actually guilty.

This is the greatest possible damage that can be done to him.
Charging him with war crimes and crimes against humanity, fit his stature as he views his stature.
Instead, put him away for life, as a brutal murderous thug --- because that is all that he was and remains as.
If Iraq OK's the death penalty, such is his fate.
