The games played by a public intellectual are a marvel of moral irresponsibility. He casually suggests that a war would be a grand idea. The result is that 10,000 die and life is ruined for the living.

Considering that Saddam killed at least that many political prisoners EVERY YEAR, I figure the Iraqi people are already coming out ahead. And fewer things inspire more contempt than seeing someone like this Lewser use his rights as an American - rights earned by blood, by those willing to die for a higher cause - to belittle the similar rights that the Iraqi people now have. I really, really hope I never meet this jerk in person.

If you want Americans to die for say ten thousand Moslem Iraqis, who are politically opposing Saddam; Would you think it would be morally acceptable to all Americans to send our soldiers to die for 2 million defenseless Christian Sudanese by its Arab Moslem government? I just was curious to ask? Unless you are a Moslem or a Christian hater, you should rather support the innocent defenseless Christian Sudanese. As far a conscious go?
