I read a thread made about a year ago, where hollywood celebrities were being called all kinds of names because they opposed the USELESS Irar war. Why useless, read THIS :

SIX THOUSAND civilians in Africa die EVERYDAY due to AIDS, poverty and hunger. Let's see, 3000 people died on the day of the 9/11 crash. TWICE the number of people die EVERYDAY in Africa because of lack of food and amenities. As far as I know, the situation in Africa, is in order of 10000000000000 times worse than in Iraq. Infact, although a larger section of Iraq lives in poverty, it is,believe it or not,one of the economically BETTER developed countries in Asia. People in most countries in Asia, particularly in parts of South East Asia, and far eastern asia live in just ABJECT and UNSPEAKABLY BAD poverty, it has to be seen to be believed. However, this is nothing compared to the situation in Central Africa, where living conditions approach the ZENITH. The average person in Iraq can afford to eat no more than two small meals a day. While families in these parts of Africa have to sometimes contend with one meal in THREE days!!!

And you talk about the brutality of Saddam? FYI , last year in a state called "Guajarat" in India(a country with which the US claims to have "strong relations" with, right now) over 20,000 muslims were killed by DEMOCRATICALLY elected leaders in span of THREE days. That's more than what Saddam killed in the last decade of his regime! And what about Pol Pot, under whose regime ONE million Cambodians mercilessly lost their lives? Did USA do ANYTHING about him? And in countries like Sierra Leone and Uganda, the brutality inflicted on people is such, it could make you faint. Atleast people in Iraq have some kind of administration, even be it a dictatorial regime that quells freedom of expression. However, in these parts of Africa, there IS no solid form of administration at all. Farmers grow crops, and host of military gangs simply come to the village and steal the crops. These farmers can do NOTHING about it. These military gangs also take about 50% of the women in every village they go, as sexual slaves. Any man who objects to his wife or daughter being captured has his limbs cut off. And to date, over 30,000 men in Africa have had their limbs chopped off by these gangs.

YOU look at these facts and tell me who needs liberation more? The Africans or Iraqis? If the American Government had ANY intention of helping people in the world, it would have "liberated" the people in central africa or south-far-eastern asia first! Please! Iraq seems like HEAVEN in front of these nations! Anyone who says that Iraq needed liberation is IRRESPONSIBLE, as he is NOT caring for people who need the help of the US MUCH MUCH more!! ------------------------------------------------ So we had ONE WTC attack which destroyed 3000 lives. Guess what?!?! Two tragedies equivalent to the WTC attacks happen in parts of the world EVERYDAY!!

You people REALLY REALLY do not know what is going on in the rest of the world. What these people are saying is : If the money spent on warfare is used to FEED people across the world, MANY MANY MANY more lives can be saved! Before trying to get rid of Saddam Hussain(a person who has travelled around the world will realize that he is, believe it or not, one of the BETTER dictators in this world) WHY are we ignoring feeding starving people(present US Aid funds are very very low, compared to what it is CAPABLE of giving) Or EVEN if you want to punish, names of dicatators MUCH MUCH worse (some have killed more than 20 times the people Saddam has) have lived in this world, and some still continue to live, but the US Government has done NOTHING about them. To say that the people of Iraq needed liberation more than anybody else is LAUGHABLE.

This post is precisely why war is justified. The new liberal model of pacifism articulated in this original post has killed more people by way of genocide than any other human contstruct in history. In the 20th century 40 million people died as a direct result of war. 170 million died of genocide-- which is a condition where well armed governments attack relatively unarmed civilians.

Liberals used to be willing to engage in war to protect human beings and the larger concepts of human rights (FDR, Truman, LBJ). Since Vietnam the left has divorced its moral vision from the necessity of war. Liberals must be confronted with the blood of genocide which is the direct consequence of their decided inaction in the face of brutal conditions. The slaughters in Kosovo, Rwanda, North Korea, Sudan, etc. etc. etc. etc. are the direct results of successful pacifism. See Samantha Powers book to understand the deep logic of this claim.

The Oil for Food program is an elegant picture of how the left not only is passive about genocide but profits from the brutality. Human rights abuses are cast as an obligation for the 40 or so democracies in the world to transfer vast sums of money from capitalist democracies to the political proxy of the UN and ultimately to corrupt dictators who will "feed the people." In fact, the money goes into the pockets of dictators who arm themselves with things like "human insecticides" (the term Saddam's military commanders formerly referred to chemical weapons as). The brutal cycle of genocide continues on the backs of victims.

Pol Pot is an excellent example of how the pacifism cycle began systemic slaughter of human beings. US withdrawal from war allowed Cambodia to initiate its brutal regime. Carter approved Khmer Rouge credentials in the UN which was critical to legitimizing the slaughter.

Congratulations liberal pacifist anti-war left-- you have consigned millions to death.
