Historically, fundamentalist Christians have not always been conservative. For example, at the end of the 19th and in the early part of the 20th century, they heavily supported William Jennings Bryan, four-time Democratic candidate for president, who was an economic radical by the standards of the time. Their tendency to vote Republican is comparatively recent. I find it ironic that some of them, unaware that they themselves are comparative conservative newbies, are questioning the conservative credentials as others.
As for myself, I am agnostic, pro-life, pro-family, anti-gay-marriage...any other social conservative issues I need to be questioned on?
Yes, I have a question
Agnostic-Catholic?
I've lost count of how many times I have told gore I'm an agnostic, and how many times he has called me an atheist.
Do you use color fonts?
Very true. The Bible Belt was in democratic hands until it began turning in the 80's. Farmers have had to make a hard choice between their subsidies and Christianity, the farther to the left and more socially liberal the democrats became. It is very hard for any Christian not to feel the hatred comming from the democrats. The democrats kicked the Christians out of their party with that hatred, thus the rise of the Christian right and the South turning Republican.
I don't. Just watch social liberal republicans voting patterns. You might as well put a democrat in office because they are the ones that always cave and vote with the democrats.
The social conservative has taken up the fight for all conservative issues with zeal once they moved over. Unlike the liberal Republican.
If people like you drive the social conservative out of the Republican party as the democrats did, where do you think they will go? It is much easier to walk away from a party due to principle once you have done it once already in the past(and studies have shown that they are the ones to sit out an election if not given somebody they can vote for). What will the effect be on the Republican party?
Unlike you I think that that caculation has been made. Put lip-service pro-life Republicans in office that will never do anything about changing the status quo and we keep the social Republican vote that puts us over the top and sends us $50 per campaign.
