Your comments again remind me of the old bulletin board days on Compuserve. We often discussed that the "rules" on the Democrat Forum were not well applied. We Republican Forum people (this was back in the day the actual parties "ran" these forums) would go to their forum and just post something like, "Clinton is a liar" and we'd get called every curse name in the book or get "banned".
But they could come to our site and say almost anything. Our Sysops just let them hang themselves with their ramblings and attacks. By 1998, many on the CIS forum were bring this site up and I finally came in and joined.
I even remember I'm like #1244 or #1294 to sign up. And I even found a post to others on Google once about me coming in. Some other poster from Compuserve "introduced" me let others know I was "okay"! lol
Of course, I wasn't a regular poster simply because I was still on a 26K modem with Windows 3.1 and using Compuserve Mosaic to use the internet. Not quite the optimum!
How fast things change. I think that computer had a whopping 10 MG harddrive and a whole 1 MG of memory! Boy, was I high tech at that time!

Did you stay up late or get up early to do that? :)

"Yes..I want you to spell it out.Are you implying BadJoe is in cahoots with JR to start a fight so we'll donate?"
I don't think you can rule this out at all. This is just one more example of greedy conservatives taking money from poor people.
And I have something else to point out. Jim Robinson said he got on his knees, but did he get on his face?? I don't believe he is truly contrite.
And just one more thing, I have never been banned which shows how unfair this site really is. The moderators are basically saying that my posts are not exciting enough for review.
I am deeply saddened, feel this is hugh and series. You people better wake up! FR is trying to keep us from being a village!

Did you stay up late or get up early to do that? I'm multitasking - following this thread and running a video rendering program, converting some old Super 8 home movies to digital format. The rendering program is cranky and requires frequent tweaks to keep it running, so here I sit.

And, by the way, this thread was not intended as a fundraiser. We have fundraiser threads in progress. I came across BadJoe's post today and simply decided to beat him to the punch. And I was trying to do it in a lighthearted and (I thought) humorous way. I really do like Joe and wish that he did not have this obsession against our moderators, however, there is absolutely no way I will ever bend to his demands and ultimatums.

The quality of discourse here is the same as it ever was, IMO.

Hardly. As far as I can tell it was more like a good man who was extremely devoted to FR who has a policy and personality conflict with 2 moderators he believed over the top. That's all. What you say may well be true, but I don't agree that "that's all" there is to it.
I've watched all this from the sidelines, but it seems to me that regardless of his undisputed good points, BadJoe's main problem appears to be that his personality type is the one best known as "Drama Queen". (Despite the name, there are plenty of male DQs.)
DQs thrive on the adrenaline of having a life filled with turmoil, and if it doesn't occur naturally, they'll manufacture some. For example, a disagreement isn't something to be resolved, it's an Epic Fight that allows them to play the hero riding a noble steed into the battle against evil that must be vanquished. Things that most people would take as minor slights and annoyances, soon forgotten, are to the DQ unforgivable insults and betrayals. They can't just be a cog in a larger process, they have to be one of the Star Attractions, without whom the entire enterprise would crash to the ground at any moment. Every problem is a crisis, every obstacle a conspiracy, every bit of good news an overwhelming victory. And they always must be at the center of attention, the star of the soap opera which is their life.
The poster child for DQs is Scarlett O'Hara.
Not content to be merely ordinary, DQs often do truly achieve big things and tenaciously follow lofty ideals. But they can be hell to try to get along with on a longterm basis. At first they can be greatly dedicated to the "best friend they ever had". But after a while, not only is the constant drama hard on the nerves if you're not of the same personality type, but it's all too easy for an ordinary bit of friction to be overdramatized into a Great Falling Out, then things can get ugly (at least for the baffled ex-friend suffering from a case of mental whiplash -- the DQ *thrives* on the agitation). And the cycle can frequently repeat, since "break up to make up" and "make up to break up" always keeps the drama going.
The poem "Drama Queen" was written with a female in mind, but it certainly captures the flavor.

Contrite about what? Perhaps I shouldn't have posted the "sin" and "forgiveness" bit, but it was intended as humor. And, yes, God will probably get me for that too.
Looks like my attempt at running a humorous thread fell pretty flat. LOL, better luck next time.

You're doing more than I am this morning. I haven't even made coffee yet.
Jim, fund-raising thread or not, FReepers need to reflect on how important this site is in their lives. If they do, on the beginning of this beautiful weekend, they will most certainly drop a dollar or two in the bucket.
To: Reb Raider
And, double oops, I should've read the rest of your post before mouthing off. Sorry (seriesly, hugh misteak on my part).

What? I remember the good old days back in '98. No flamewars. No trolls. No disrupters. No chat. All serious talk about constitutional matters 24 hours per day. Why, we could all recite the Declaration and the Constitution backwards and forwards after the first year or so of posting to FR.
Howdy Floratina!
