You may be closer than you think. It wasn't that morality evolved, it was that the law had a purpose which was fulfilled in Christ. The book of Romans through chapter 8 explains this in some detail, if you'd care to pursue it.

I think that's an excellent suggestion. If I could only have one book of the Bible I'd choose Romans. If I could only have one chapter of the Bible I'd choose Romans chapter 8. If I could only have one verse in the Bible I'd choose Romans 8:1.

Because of its content I used to read the first 8 chapters of Romans as often as possible, sometimes daily. Since Romans chapter 8 summarizes much of what comes before it, for those limited on time reading Romans chapter 8 is a great place to start, imo.
