Thank you so much for your reply!

I guess I can make a mental note to suspect translation differences on blatant apparent contradictions such as the one in my little aside about "in His image" versus "omniscient, etc."

Again I return to the point that my eyes read the Bible, but the Spirit within me reads the Word.

The difference is breathtaking, because those of us with the indwelling of the Spirit are parts of one Being and read it all the same, i.e. the mind of Christ. Those of us who are reading with the eyes have disagreements.

Er, if I may interject a point. You said:

All these suggest an evolving code of ethics and morality. At the very least they suggest an evolving understanding of morality.

You may be closer than you think. It wasn't that morality evolved, it was that the law had a purpose which was fulfilled in Christ. The book of Romans through chapter 8 explains this in some detail, if you'd care to pursue it.

If not God, then who? Does Satan have the necessary level of omniscience to tap into the ecosystem and create hundreds of millions of separate, distinct kinds of organisms, all perfectly tuned to the preditor/prey, parasite/host relationship? Inquiring minds want to know just how one goes about designing living things.

I have heard some Christians claim that Satan was the creator of disease and other ills. (If this is not the orthodox Christian position, I hope someone will correct me.) Judaism rejects any such role for Satan as inconsistent with pure monotheism; in Jewish theology, Satan is merely one of God's messengers. (See, for example, the book of Job, in which Satan does nothing without God's explicit prior leave.)

In Judaism, God is the sole Creator, both of good and ill: " That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." (Isaiah 45:6-7).

The book of Romans through chapter 8 explains this in some detail, if you'd care to pursue it.

I think that's an excellent suggestion. If I could only have one book of the Bible I'd choose Romans. If I could only have one chapter of the Bible I'd choose Romans chapter 8. If I could only have one verse in the Bible I'd choose Romans 8:1.

Because of its content I used to read the first 8 chapters of Romans as often as possible, sometimes daily. Since Romans chapter 8 summarizes much of what comes before it, for those limited on time reading Romans chapter 8 is a great place to start, imo.

Something we all should consider is the founding fathers did not escape tyranny to perpetutae another ... we were founded upon God AND religious liberty and defending it is our obligation --- liberals have made God and right and wrong a thought crime and themselves ACLU whacks - our overlords - us slaves !

Watch those senate confirmation hearings and if you publicly state your beliefs and sincerity you are vetted - crucified ... there is supposed to be no religious - ideological special interest test or PLEDGE for office and now the supreme court has established them ... abortion - pornography - evolution - gun control - racial - sexual preferences especially

Thank you so much for your post!

I love the book of Romans, too! But if I were allowed only one book of the Bible, I'd choose the Gospel of John. If only one chapter, John 17. If only one verse, John 17:23

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
