I'm not concerned so much with the violation of rights caused by drug use as the destruction of lives caused by drug access.

If it's the users' lives being destroyed, that's none of government's business.

I'm concerned about the destruction of lives (300,000 deaths) associated with access to McDonalds and Burger King. I'm concerned about the destruction of lives (125,000 deaths) associated with access to Budweiser. I'm concerned about the destruction of lives (41,000 deaths) associated with access to automobiles. I'm concerned about the destruction of lives (450,000 deaths) associated with access to Marlboros. I'm concerned with the destruction of lives (200,000 deaths) associated with access to prescription drugs.

I'm not concerned... with the violation of rights

Speaks volumns about you as a person.

I am concerned about the destruction of lives

Brings us back to the alcohol arguement. If you are so concerned about the destruction of lives, you need to petition the government to bring back prohibition. Only if you want to be consistant that is.

Sec. 812. Schedules of controlled substances

(1) Schedule I. -

(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.

(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.

(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

Please explain why Alcohol and Nicotine are not schedule I drugs

Pot has a low potential for abuse.  The US government supplies it to 7 people for medical purposes.  Why is it a Schedule I drug?
