FreeRepublic has been evolving towards little more than a fan club or cheer-leading section for the Republican Party. It has moved a long way away from making freedom and restoration of the Constitution its driving forces. Moving this thread to the smoky back room is nothing more than raw censorship and supression of things that very much need to be discussed on this site.

The Founders made two major mistakes in the drafting of the Constitution. Slavery and failure to include a Term Limits provision for the three branches of government. The only good thing that came out of the Civil War was the end of slavery. Term limits have been established for the Executive branch, but we still need to establish Term Limits for members of Congress and the Federaly Judiciary.

Lincoln was a tyrant and was wrong regarding the sanctity of the union. Those who believe the States lack the right of secession are going to be faced with a second civil war in this country. Lincoln proved one thing and one thing only, might makes right, but only for the time being. This country is founded on freedom and indiviual liberties. Those who believe the guiding principle of this country is about democracy and the right of the majority to rule, are soon going to find that nothing can be farther from the truth.

Beginning with the end of the Civil War, the country entered a new phase where the federal government was strengthened immensely at the expense of the states and the people. With the onslaught of tyrannical Democrats beginning with Woodrow Wilson, there was a methodical increase in federal power with corresponding losses of power by the states and individuals. We are in the process of correcting those mistakes. The questions we face going forward require careful answers. Those who seek power instead of liberty are going to lose. And if blood is shed in the process, I don't think I have to tell you who should be held accountable.

In the past, I have considered my self to be a staunch conservative in that I have been a strong advocate of restoring the Constitution and adding the principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence as part of our bedrock law. Strangely the most beautiful document ever created by man, our Declaration has never been recognized as being codified in law. It is now clear to me that the Republican party is more conservative than the Democratic party in terms of adhereing to the Constitution and the principles expressed in the Declaration, but in one sense Republicans are very little different from Democrats. Many Republicans believe in the power of government instead of the power of people. I am going to be looking for a new name as a frequenter of this site, but it will not be as a Republican and it may not be as a financial contributor to the site itself. As long as this site was primarily about restoring freedom and our Constitutional rights, I was a believer in the site and a financial supporter. I have curtailed, but not completely eliminated my contributing while I am considering the focus of the web site and the people who frequent it. If FreeRepublic is about freedom, then my allegiance will be strong, but if it is about Republicans, then this site is nothing more than a means to an end and perhaps a way to change a few minds that matter, but otherwise the site is no big deal.

Which is it Jim Rob and Freepers alike? Is this site about freedom or Republicans? And those of you who do not recognize the difference, it is very definitely time that you do. There is no question that the first step was to strip power from the Democrats. And maybe the second is for Republicans to learn how to use the power they have gained. But what Republicans seem to learning is how to use the power to ensure their own encumbancy. If they don't quickly see the error of their ways, and learn to use the power to return power to the people and strip the powers of governments, then the stupid party will once again have failed to learn anything.

The US is facing financial apocalypse before 2016. It is not politically or economically possible to fund the unfunded liabilities of Social Security, Medicare, and the other various welfare and entitlement programs. If we have not fixed these problems beginning with Social Security before 2012, it will probably be too late. So far, Bush has not shown any evidence of being capable of leading the Republican Party to make the changes that must be made within the time constraints that are possible. Assuming Bush wins in 2004, we will have one more election cycle to save the United States as we know it. This site could play a significant role in informing a lot of Americans on what changes are needed and why. But the character and nature of the discussion will need to change. And the focus will have to change in favor of freedom and doing the right things to bring freedom to us all rather than just being about winning elections for Republicans. Winning power for a few months or even years and only preserving the status quo in terms of stopping the loss of liberty is not adequate. And it is most certainly not leadership. I want my freedom back and I want it back today. And anyone who is not actively working to restore it is not welcome on my team. And those who would continue to empower government have become my enemies.

Having read a few of the past Lincoln threads, I think it's in the backroom because the odds are it will devolve into a shouting match rather than rational discussion.

Also, are you sure it was moved to the backroom, or did Non-Sequitur post it here to begin with because he knows what it will turn into?
