MIAMI (Reuters) - About 500 pounds of marijuana washed ashore on several south Florida beaches, prompting a late-night search for drug smugglers in choppy coastal waters, police said on Wednesday.
Federal and local law enforcement agencies sent two helicopters and two boats on Tuesday night to scour the sea for suspects after a man reported coming across a large bale of marijuana while strolling on the beach, police said.
In total, police found 12 bales of marijuana wrapped in white burlap sacks with a street value of up to $1.5 million, said Jim Messer, a Delray Beach police spokesman.
While fairly common during the drug-trafficking decade of the 1980s, Messer said it was rare to see such large quantities of illegal drugs floating ashore on Delray Beach, which is just north of Fort Lauderdale.
"Every once in a while we get refugees washing up on shore, every once in a while we get dope washing up on shore," he said.

Not uncommon. Once in a while a bale will wash up on LA, TX, AL, and MS beaches too.

If it wasn't sealed and got waterlogged, it isn't worth squat now.

To some of us, it isn't worth squat even if it was sealed.

Well it's value, economically speaking, is up the market.
I mean bricks of gold have no value to me personally, but economically speaking gold is worth it's weight in marijuana.

I meant to enclose >>Sea Weed<< in quotes to show the phrase was attributed to you---I just realized I didn't. :(
I apologize.

The "Sea Weed" phrase was coined by philman_36 (#9 post), and I, in my haste to express my glee with his creativity, failed to quote it.

While I thank you for the creativity compliment I can't truly take credit for "coining" that particular expression, though I do have some original works scattered about FR which may show you some of my creativity skills. You may think they suck eggs...I don't know, you be the judge.
The expression has been around for quite some time though.

Well, even if you didn't coin it, you deployed it at the perfect moment!
