[history]
In an e-mail to her family on Feb. 7, two weeks after her arrival in the Gaza Strip, Rachel Corrie wrote that "no amount of reading, attendance at conferences, documentary viewing . . . could have prepared me for the reality of the situation here."

The Olympia Movement for Justice & Peace, and the entire Olympia community, mourns the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and friend, Rachel Corrie, who was killed today in Gaza by an Israeli army bulldozer as she attempted to protect a Palestinian home from demolition.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Corrie family. Rachel was a tireless worker for social justice, a compassionate, loving, humble, even shy young woman who, over and over, put aside her own fears to promote peace and human rights, especially for those least able to protect themselves. She is an irreplaceable part of the Olympia community, and will be sorely missed. http://www.omjp.org/

Maybe they will name a street in the Gaza Strip after her. After all, she is now part of one.

Does this make her eligible for the annual Darwin Award?

Killed activist is recalledAlert: Nationwide recall for peace activists has been announced. Activists can be hazardous to public safety and unsupervised activism around heavy equipment can harm or kill. These activists were produced at colleges and universities nationwide on or about 9-11-01 and may contain lethal doses of denial and misdirected anger. Call 1-800-NO-CLUE if you have any questions.

She sacrificed her life for murderers. No sympathy hereLook, read my post I put up just after yours, changed my postion.
Now I will never defend the PLO or anyother group of Palestinians. But I will say from first hand expierence they are not all terrorist, their are alot of good ones. Just like all Israelis aren't killing machines, as the left portrays them.
I'm not defending her cause, she was stupid and paid the price.

People like Rachel are convinced of their inflated worth by their indulgent parents from virtually day one. Then they go somewhere where life (especially theirs) has little or no value. Pure arrogant stupidity and self-destructive human pride. She never once considered that she would ever be harmed, I'll bet.

Corrie's parents, Craig and Cynthia Corrie of Charlotte, N.C., released a statement saying they "are proud Rachel was able to live her convictions.I can't imagine saying that after my child committed suicide. I would be telling other parents...DON'T ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO GO IN HARMS WAY! When my brother died as a result of his darwin actions, we cried and mourned, but couldn't excuse his stupidity.

What a gentle, sweet, loving spirit she was. You can see it in her face. < /sarcasm >

One gets the impression that she really didn't have much of a life and this was just another thrill possibility. Seems like there are a lot of kids like Johnny Jahid around.
I'd like to make a suggestion for human shields...get some training on dozer and military operations before deploying.

Exactly what I was thinking. There should be a special award subclass such as, the 'Darwin Award for Human Shields'. They really deserve special recognition for their services to global stupidity above and beyond that of simple spur of the moment lethal foolishness that the Darwin Awards usually confer.

I can only assume she was a "greener" as well. She fits the profile.
Those from western washington will know what I'm talking about.
