I just got called for Jury duty for the first time (want info on Jury Nullification) - VANITY

Posted on 03/12/2003 7:27:40 AM PST by The FRugitive

I just got called for jury duty for the first time.

I'm curious about jury nullification in case I get picked and get a consensual "criminal" case (tax evasion, drug posession, gun law violation, etc.). What would I need to know?

This could be my chance to stick it to the man. ;)

(Of course if I were to get a case of force or fraud I would follow the standing law.)

FIJA

Your duty as a juror is to judge both the facts and the law.

Causing a hung jury because of a cult's hatred of the rule of law is a delay in justice.

Justice? LOL, if there was any justice you would be off this forum because of your hatred of freedom and those who embrace it.

And if there was any justice, we would ALL burn in hell.

Justice has nothing to do with the law.

Justice has nothing to do with the law.

Anarchists hate the rule of law and see "jury nullification" as a tool to damage it.

I never met an anarchist so I couldn't comment on that off topic post.

The founders didn't see it as a tool to damage the rule of law.

Justice has nothing to do with the law.

That position is the very heart of anarchism.

Justice has nothing to do with the law. If it did, laws would define justice. Like slavery and Jim Crow and abortion and genocide.

The position is really at the very heart of Christianity. All are unjust, we are saved by grace, not by law.

Fine by me. I don't want to agree with anybody who mocks another Freeper behind their back anyway.

I'll take Roscoe any day of the week.

False.

Anarchy means an absence of law...

The theory of anarchy is against all reason. Apart from the fact that it runs counter to some of the most cherished instincts of humanity, as, for instance, family life and love of country, it is evident that society without authority could not stand for a moment.

Hey what happened to debating what nullification is?

Where was that debate? I never debated the point. One poster was debating himself. Posing a strawman and knocking it down. And way off topic. Go back and look. I asked the poster to give a definition which was quoting an authoritative source other than himself. In lieu of that his statements of "fact" were only opinion. People make all kinds of assertions around here all the time and need to be challenged to back them up. He finally delivered a definition which agreed with what he was asserting to himself, so I guess he is happy. Works for me.

And I mock him to his face. Not to mention you.

FIJA types aren't driven by any love of historic legal principles. They see jury nullification as a way of attacking the laws that they don't like.

You can guess which laws those usually are.

You must be debating yourself. Anarchy has only been mentioned by you.

Justice is what I addressed. We will all be judged, Roman Catholic or not.

Justice will be served, some will be saved by grace.
