The Design Inference Game
03/03/03 | Moi

I thought a new thread was a good idea, and here seems to be a good place to put it, so as not to clutter up "News". The only topic available was "heated discussion", though. ;)

If any clarification about the pictures is needed, just say so, and I will try to at least highlight the part that I am interested in for you. Remember that I'm interested in the objects or structures or artifacts being represented, so don't be thrown off if the illustrations seem abstract.

May I ask the highly esteemed Nebullis for a description of the process being depicted here?

A search for PatrickHenry or gore3000 will usually yield results.

Yes, but the quality varies, if y'know what I mean.

For two bonus points, is this natural or designed?

Fur two bonus points, that has to be a designed artifact. (And the Jolly Green giant's girlfriend should not be using IUD's. They're abortifacients.)

Cordially,

You've got your bonus points. Don't spend them all at once.

Thank you so much for the kudos and encouragements (blushing here)!!! Hugs!

I do believe you are blushing, A-G - for the first time I can remember offhand, you forgot your Arial font in that post ;)

LOLOL! You are sooo right, I was quite taken back by the tribute and completely forgot to use the Arial font (which I try to use on crevo posts because they have a longer "shelf life" and tend to grow.) Hugs!

Nebullis, would you care to provide a brief description of the process depicted in #327, or point me to one? Thanks.

That's the citric acid cycle, also known as the Krebs cycle, also known as the TCA (tricarboxylic acid cycle). It is one of a series of enzyme reaction pathways used in the conversion of carbon compounds to energy in the respiration of higher animals. The cycle takes place in the mitochondria, uses 8 different enzymes plus a number of coenzymes, and involves the concerted action of other components, like the translocases which provide the necessary compounds to the mitochondria, and the PDH complex which provides the oxidation product from pyruvate for the cycle. It's an open cycle, meaning that the steps in the cylce are used for other reactions as well.

I hope this all sounds sufficiently complex. General_re, I'm sure can fill you in on these facts as well, Diamond.
