Vanity: Is protecting Constitution no longer goal of Freerepublic.com?
Me

Posted on 02/28/2003 10:03:14 AM PST by libertylady

I have recently noticed that the home page of Free Republic no longer has the icon at the top which states that one of the goals of this website is protecting our freedom and our Constitution. Can anyone help me shed some light on this? I would hope that this is a temporary change and not an official declaration made by the staff of this website. With the lack of articles and lack of alarm posted on this website about the Draconian Patriot 1 and Patriot Act 2 I have began to wonder about whether this site really does support the Constitution.

"Do you know of anyone other than Islamic terrorists who've been adversely affected by these Acts?"

Perhaps not under President Bush, but do you really believe that if a Hillary Clinton was to secure the white house for herself, that she, or another like her, wouldn't abuse such powers to the greatest extent imaginable?

You can also vote for Mickey Mouse (which would be just as effective).

Well, to you perhaps. But I think I'll stay with the Republicans. Thanks

Then you can continue to give power to those who give us more gun control, money to abortion clinics and the largest federal government in our history. I, however, have no interest in making the government bigger and more powerful and making out Constitution weaker and more endangered. I will not be voting for Republicans.

So instead you will vote for some sad, no-chance 3rd party candiddate? Why not just push the lever or punch the hole for the Dems directly?

Well, whether you like it or not that's exactly what you are doing. Allowing the Democrats to hold power is like turning the country over to the communists. You guys are simply running up the white flag. I see nothing patriotic or principled in that.

"The goal is 60 in '04! No more democrat obstruction! No more fillibustering conservative appointments!"

Not all Rats are stupid though. Some are just evil, and they know that we are going after that kind of win and the courts, which is why the attack on conservative talk radio, which, after they fail miserably to counter, they will go after from another angle, possibly even trying to use something such as CFR to silence Rush and others.

Another tactic they are working on fast and furiously is seeking to thwart our efforts to prevent them commiting massive voter fraud. They are working overtime to secure the right to vote for felons and prevent any and all effort to require ID proving a person is a citizen and a legitimately qualified voter. Our owm FReeper, "stop_the_rats", shook them up so bad in the state of Arkansas, that there is now a new Rat sponsored bill that appears to be aimed at stopping poll watchers. To a Rat, pollwatchers = those trying to prevent Rats from cheating voting, and in Arkansas they are seeking to impose a penalty under force of law for it.

Sometimes I wonder if FR is beginning to morph from a truly conservative website to a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RNC.

I've been wonderin' about that too.... !

JR: Well, the sad reality is, our government is essentially controlled by the two major political parties. And I doubt there will be any earth-shattering changes in that anytime in the foreseeable future.

E: Perhaps the only logical choice for patriotic Americans is to not support either.

Well, eskimo, you can pick up your marbles and refuse to play, but I wouldn't call that logical if your goal is to win the game.

The goal here is to move the country closer to the goal, even if only a little. Politics is compromise. It will always be compromise. This country is designed to move slowly for change, not be controlled by the whims of a few on either fringe. Winning a majority of this country to thinking a little more conservatively is hard. Saying you just won't play unless everyone wakes up tomorrow and thinks like eskimo is easy.

Too bad he didn't get elected. But at least he did set the stage for Reagan and others. Good things can happen if enough good people fight hard enough. Give up the fight and the enemy takes all.

FR's mission will not change.

It already has, FR is no longer a "grass roots conservative" site.

anti-"War On Drugs" ==> "pro-drugs"

It is exactly this kind of lying BS that is killing FR.

I'm not selling out or bowing down. I'm contributing to the defeat of the left. You do it your way and I'll do it my way, thank you very much.

"Sure am glad that Gore is not president today. And just as glad that Daschle, Gephardt & Co are not in charge of the Congress."

I agree wholeheartedly about Gore not being president, however, it certainly appears that Daschle, for all intents and purposes, is still in charge of the Senate, even though he is technically no longer majority leader.
