Excellent point, PKM. The same people doing all the Muslim/Arab bashing are usually the ones bent on constand Bush-bashing, too. I'm sure you have noticed that.
Muslim, Arab, practicing Muslim, cultural Muslim. All different things. The thing most of us are concerned with is orthodox, traditional, Mohammedanism.
It is Better to open our eyes to the religion of peace , lest we have our throats slit.
**That's right -- we needed to condemn every Muslim in this Country as being a terrorist don't you know.
You've both badly misread Gaffney, as you'd know if you'd read his columns a little more carefully. He has consistently agreed with the goal of inclusion of moderate Muslims. The problem is, those aren't the Muslims courted by Grover Norquist.
Gaffney is a sober foreign policy analyst, who is a guest nationally on the Hugh Hewitt Show once a week. I've been listening to him for years. His worldview is much like that of Paul Wolfowitz.
In the research I've done since this blew up, all of the evidence supports Gaffney's charges, leaving Grover Norquist's "racist bigot" refrain ringing rather hollow, and not a little desperate.
We are fighting a War on Terror. The forces allied with Terror are a danger to our nation, out allies, and our troops abroad.
Grover Norquist's Islamic Institute has taken donations from entities and nations that fund homicide bombers in Israel, who have had their assets seized as terrorist organizations, and who are currently under federal investigation for potential links to terrorist groups.
Norquist's Islamic Institute co-founder, Khaled Saffuri, is reported to have attempted to intervene on the behalf of one of those organizations, the Safa Trust, in a meeting with Treasury Secretary Paul O'Niell last year, after warrants were served to investigate Safa's financial ties to terror orgs. Norquist and Saffuri have both consistently opposed anti-terror measures, some of which were in the Patriot Act, that are necessary in the investigation of people like Sami Al Arian.
Saffuri is known to be supporting the child of at least one Palestinian homicide bomber.
Norquist and others, like Suhail Khan and Ali Tulbah, have ushered a number of radical Muslim organizations with publicly known sympathies for terrorism, like the AMC and CAIR, into the Bush White House, the AMC as recently as last month.
Suhail Khan is the son of the late Mahboob Khan, a Muslim cleric in California, at whose mosque, bin Laden Lieutenant Ayman Al Zawahiri (conspirator in 9/11, the Cole bombing, the African Embassy bombings, the Luxor Temple massacre, and the assassination of Anwar Sadat) raised funds for Al Qaeda in 1995. Suhail Khan is a board member of Norquist's Islamic Institute and was recommended for his White House position by Grover Norquist.
I find this all a little problematic, don't you?
