I don't think so, but I'm not sure.

was disabled by military aircraft; not shot downBased upon? Interesting angle, would fit some of the (admittedly questionable!!!) eyewitness reports.
I have no problem accepting that passengers took back control of this plane, and it crashed.
I also have no problem with my government if indeed they disabled or shot down this plane.
Both would be reassuring to me, and I'm willing to examine valid evidence either way. I think the only ones who not are those who are criticizing/insulting.
And if this paper is a liberal rag, that mitigates against the credibility of this story.
On the other hand, as I said, this story rings true with what I've heard locally.

Washington? Frankly, I don't know, but the USA is a very big place. A more likely distribution of two pairs of armed aircraft were someplace like Florida. Backup for drug "war" interdiction missions.

The passengers found out via their cell phones GOD you guys! You're thick!!
THEY called via GTE Airfones!
NBC even interviewed one of the GTE OPERATORS that from the Chicago subrb where GTE operates the Airfone system from.
Have you NEVER flown on a domestic flight?
Do you REMEBER those PHONES in the seats that had initally a ten dollar per minute fee (later more like $3)?
Geez! Dense people!

True, but those working the USX Tower and one of the PPG buildings (tall building in downtown Pittsburgh) were told specifically to evacuate immediately (a plane was lost/hijacked over Cleveland and in Pgh. airspace.) It was widely reported here. Not saying it proves anything one way or the other, but it was widely reported here prior to the crash in Somerset. I remember that day quite vividly and was listening to KDKA radio from about 9:45 AM to 11:00. There were a myriad of rumors that there could have been 3 or more planes being in the air after the FAA required madatory landings of all commercial aircraft and that basically the whole country was going into lockdown.
Rumors were flying in every direction on that day. Another question is why I didn't hear sonic booms. I lived in central Florida and reguarly heard sonic booms from the Shuttle landings and people in a wide area of Central Florida heard them. You would think that people would hear sonic booms(not just one sonic boom) on the flight path of the "supposed" jet that "shot" down Flight 93.

At least SIX witnesses, including Susan Mcelwain saw a small military type plane flying around shortly BEFORE UA93 crashed.
I don't believe that general aviation was grounded yet at this point - commercial air travel was though, through a "ground stop".
So, it MOST LIKELY was a private, corporate (or FAA?) aircraft.
No?

I thought the "some combination of both" response an outstanding bit of Orwellian speak by Minetta. There is alot of Orwellian speak going on around here.

Got numbers? Remember these elephants keep going and going.
Account for all the used ones that have been sold, traded, whatever to other countries and are still doing business with I'd venture to say reliably a wlole lot less maintenance than 800 had. Pas spark!

I'm not your "dear," Jim, and it would help if you engaged this discussion with less arrogance and patronizing tone and more patience if you truly desire to advance your position.
As I said, this article fits what I hear locally and what I have heard consistently locally from day one, but I'm more than willing to accept that it was brought down by the passengers.
I have no agenda, just a desire to find out more.

NBC even interviewed one of the GTE OPERATORS that from the Chicago subrb where GTE operates the Airfone system from. They were paid government operatives. Get with the program.
To: _Jim
Hey Captain Jackass, have you ever USED a CELL PHONE?!
A FEW people used GTE Airfones. The rest used CELL PHONES.
CELL PHONES work just fine on airplanes in mid-flight.
There are DOZENS of reports of people from this and ALL the other planes using their CELL PHONES to contact relatives on the ground. Not GTE Airfones. CELL PHONES.
Get off your goddamned high horse. You may be smarter than a lot of the people on this thread, but that doesn't make you Einstein.

How does "the government" silence all those FAA employees? :)
Wasn't there an animated radar image of the hijacked aircraft publicly released in late 2001?

Frankly, I was more than happy to hear the explanations given here, especially because I'm aware of the fact that what I heard locally might not have been interpreted accurately. Heck, one of my patients had a briefcase with papers land in his yard at Indian Lake. But all the crash debris at the crash site buried itself 30 feet deep in the soft ground of a recently restored strip mine.
I always wondered how the plane would literally disappear, with hardly any smoke or fire, with no debris field, yet there be debris up to several miles away. It never made sense to those of us privvy to local emergency response personel "gossip."

Greetings Polycarp, FReepers, et al:
It seems the eyewitness Flight 93 story get embellished each it's retold.
Donning my tin foil cap. After watching that shoe bomb mockup demo, the Flight 800 story "fuel tank explosion" seems less credible. :)
