Some good ideas there but I don't believe Sheriffs have any power in counties outside of unincorporated areas. In other words, if the Cook County sheriff wants to do anything in Chicago he will not do it without authorization by the Chicago P.D.

Not so........

He's a COUNTY Sheriff

He's elected - can't be 'fired'...

Police chief's are appointed - they 'rule' at the whim of the commissioners will...

A sheriff has ultimate power in his county: able to run Fed's off as well (although that ain't too wise, for they WILL be back!)

This is a false view circulated by the militia types and is not true at all. They have even claimed at one point that the powers of sheriffs are laid out in the Constitution. When you hear this said just ask where the word "Sheriff" is in the Constitution or better yet make a bet with them that the word is not in the Constitution. Easy money.

Counties have no power to thwart State or Federal authorities even if they are doing something stupid. In unincorporated areas of a county a sheriff might well have a lot of power but not in cities.
