Mexican Consulate Opens In Downtown Indianapolis. (Shop after shop, sign after sign in Spanish)

The Mexican Consulate in Indianapolis will be open for business Monday. It's an office that will serve a group of people that's growing rapidly in our city and state. Mayor Bart Peterson's office has worked for about two years with the Mexican government and the state of Indiana to get this consulate opened.

You don't have to look hard to see why the consulate is needed. Drive down Washington Street a few miles west of downtown, and you'll see the fruits of our Hispanic and Latino community's labor. Shop after shop, sign after sign in Spanish. There are now some 34,000 Latinos and Hispanics in Indianapolis, and 60% of them are Mexican.

"We have an education system that welcomes the immigrants and we like the way we are treated because we find that the American community is welcoming in general," said Roberto Curci, La Guia Magazine.

The city even has two publications geared toward this growing community. "The Voice of Indiana," a bilingual newspaper and "The Guide of Indianapolis," a magazine for Hispanics and Latinos. There's even a new Hispanic and Latino yellow pages.

Local businesses are forging ties with that community. Kroger just donated a van to the Hispanic Center of Indianapolis to thank them for translation help that the center has provided for the grocery chain.

"As we change and we are changing as a city, I think it was important for business to recognize that and we have recognized it," said Jeff Golc, Kroger.

The change will continue. Just ask the woman who helps run the grocery store on West Washington Street. New Hispanic and Latino customers come in for her authentic products all the time.

"Like once in a while there will be somebody new that comes. You know, like, "Oh, we just moved here and we came to see how it is." So yeah, we always get new people that come here," said Irasema Delgado, store manager.

The Mexican Consulate will serve three states: Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. It will serve as the Mexican government's primary link with those states on issues such as immigration, trade and economic development.

Obviously the Mexican government has contact with illegals to hand them their little travel kits. I'm sure you heard of Jorge Castaneda demanding (on behalf of the Mexican government) the "whole enchilada" where we were to stop requiring visas for Mexican citizens, they were to be given free health care and education in the USA, they were to have access to any job or service in the USA they wanted. The "whole enchilada" isn't about individuals reading the Constitution and deciding to head north, it's a very active role by a foreign government that is trying to dictate to our leaders.

Also note a report from the government saying immigration will continue at epic rate for at least 3 decades is not even close to any form of proof that they're SENDING people, which is the repeated and unsubstatiated accusation.

The pale faced Spanish conquistador ruling class of Mexico forces their Mestizos and Indians into the United Stares. They are racist bas**rds who hate their brown skinned people and want to be rid of them. It's the best scam going.

you're only trying to stop the illegals.

Not me. I'd rather allow the working illegals who never accessed a single welfare or government program, never took free schooling or medical care and kick out the legals on welfare. I'd be more in favor of totally reforming the immigration laws that currently let family members bring in immigrants legally who have no intention or ability to be self-sufficient. To me they are far worse than the few illegals who aren't dealing in stolen Social Security cards and who are strictly working for cash but not taking handouts.

Those 11 illegals who died a slow excrutiating death locked in that train car in Iowa last July were most likely browner Mexicans. I'd bet not one was a fair-haired Spaniard type. They were locked into that train car while it was parked in Mexico. I wouldn't be surprised if a government agent had some kind of hand in that.

Great so it should be really easy for you guys to find a link and prove it.

Look people on this thread say all kinds of crap including accusing me of harboring illegal aliens (read post 341 Dennis, that's not a laughing matter, and it's not childish to be upset when someone accuses you of committing felonies). Now I KNOW many of the things being said on this thread are untrue, it's not out of order to ask for verifiable proof. And yet nobody seems to be able to cough any up, they just keep piling on the accusations against both the Mexican government and me, but they have no proof.

LOL! Stop being childish. BTW the Mexican consulates hands out those stinking martricula consular card to their illegal aliens. Legal Mexicans are in no need of these despicable& insulting documents. This is America not Mexico. I want as little as possible to do with that corrupt cesspit.

Your point couldn't be driven home in harder.

I've heard it, it's prety f'd up. Of course if we didn't have these socialist programs in the first place it wouldn't be a problem. And it's still not proving that the Mexican government is orchestrating an invasion. That's your accusation PROVE IT.

Of course the ongoing Indian problems in Mexico (including an ongoing and largely undeclared civil war) are in Southern Mexico. I've repeatedly stated that Mexico has serious problems as a nation. But serious problems as a nation != deliberately sending hordes of immigrants to conquer America.

Don't be surprised when the Mexican Consul-General there starts sending letters to the Op-Ed section of your local newspapers pushing amesty for illegals. The one we have here does it all the time with the same tired myths about how they "are just hardworking people coming here for a better life and they do jobs Americans won't do."

What other government is here insisting we accept it's identification card and take in any number of it's citizens? What other government has even used words like "the whole enchilada"? Even Castro as bad as he is sees the need to keep Cubans in Cuba to live and work there. Mexico is ridding itself of the very people who could build that country up ---the people with dreams to be middle class ---those are the people it should try to keep in spite of their current poverty, they do have goals.

Now you're really confusing yourself Fitzy. On the one hand you say that the Mexican government's plan to handout granola bars and snakebite kits to illegals is proof that they are orchestrating a deliberate invasion. But on the other hand you don't have a problem with these same illegals if they get jobs.

Mexico shouldn't have an "Indian problem" because only 10-20% of the people are pure Indian, less are pure European. 70-80% are Mestizo. They could be a middle class country if they'd only change their laws and culture. They won't become one with their current policies.

That's where I consider myself a moderate on immigration. I don't have all that much problem with illegals who do not use stolen social security cards, who don't drive without insurance, who aren't committing violent crimes, who don't use our schools and hospitals without paying. I don't gripe about those with families back in Mexico who are working strictly for cash in those few jobs that they can get. The only thing is ---that makes a relatively small group. They could be incorporated into a temporary worker program and actually most of them do intend to go back to Mexico at some point anyhow.

The letters are probably already composed and waiting to be sent....I see them all the time.

How quickly people forget. Go back and see the first 20 minutes of Scarface and tell me all about how even Castro keeps the Cubans in Cuba.

As for other governments making demands on America I suggest you look up what Europeans say about the death penalty. Pay especially close attention to the French and their lack of willingness to extradite people accused of capital crimes in America. Not demanding much for their citizens, just demanding a COMPLETE overhaul of our legal system to match THEIR moral view.

Think we should start a pool for when the screaming starts?

Well, let's see....the consulate is just opening and the signs in Spanish are already going up all over the place. It'll probably take 'em a little time to recognize that about 90% the local crime reports feature somebody with a 'z' in his name. In the next year, when they've been awakened by that accordian-polka music blasting from a car in the middle of the night enough times and begin to really notice the huge increase in litter all over the place....that's about when they'll really start screaming. :)

I don't agree with what Castro does to keep Cubans in Cuba, I was pointing out that even Castro sees the need to keep the working people in his country. You should see some of the almost ghost towns that once thriving little Mexican villages have become. Just a few old people and abandoned mothers with children are all that's left in many little towns ---why Mexican leaders think that's so wonderful is beyond me.

I'll agree that Mexico shouldn't have an Indian problem, though it has nothing to do with relative population percentages (look at the history of our own Indian problem and relative population percentages, ours was also completely avoidable).

Remember they've been run entirely by socialists for 80 years, the place is a mess, the Fox is working on it, but it's a LONG journey.

Let's see, you are comparing this titanic illegal alien invasion and it's support from the Mexican government to the French making demands? You cannot be serious.
