The Mexican Consulate in Indianapolis will be open for business Monday. It's an office that will serve a group of people that's growing rapidly in our city and state. Mayor Bart Peterson's office has worked for about two years with the Mexican government and the state of Indiana to get this consulate opened.
You don't have to look hard to see why the consulate is needed. Drive down Washington Street a few miles west of downtown, and you'll see the fruits of our Hispanic and Latino community's labor. Shop after shop, sign after sign in Spanish. There are now some 34,000 Latinos and Hispanics in Indianapolis, and 60% of them are Mexican.
"We have an education system that welcomes the immigrants and we like the way we are treated because we find that the American community is welcoming in general," said Roberto Curci, La Guia Magazine.
The city even has two publications geared toward this growing community. "The Voice of Indiana," a bilingual newspaper and "The Guide of Indianapolis," a magazine for Hispanics and Latinos. There's even a new Hispanic and Latino yellow pages.
Local businesses are forging ties with that community. Kroger just donated a van to the Hispanic Center of Indianapolis to thank them for translation help that the center has provided for the grocery chain.
"As we change and we are changing as a city, I think it was important for business to recognize that and we have recognized it," said Jeff Golc, Kroger.
The change will continue. Just ask the woman who helps run the grocery store on West Washington Street. New Hispanic and Latino customers come in for her authentic products all the time.
"Like once in a while there will be somebody new that comes. You know, like, "Oh, we just moved here and we came to see how it is." So yeah, we always get new people that come here," said Irasema Delgado, store manager.
The Mexican Consulate will serve three states: Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. It will serve as the Mexican government's primary link with those states on issues such as immigration, trade and economic development.

Think we should start a pool for when the screaming starts?I am very confident that the screaming has already started in places like Indianapolis. The few on this thread that are attempting to mimimize and sugarcoat this crisis are not representitive of the majority!
To: Joe Hadenuf
That's right... ruin my chance for some quick, easy money, LOL.
There will always be those who attempt to sugarcoat this mess - as they try forcing it down the throats of the rest of us! Fortunately, they do seem to be getting fewer and fewer.

You bet, as time goes on, they will be become a very tiny minority. Not to much longer, and this crisis will reach a volatile stage, and our so-called leaders that stand in stone silence in the face of this massive invasion, will be held accountable. The will of the people will become very loud.
To: Joe Hadenuf
I think our leaders are beginning to notice the militias on the border....

When it gets bad enough, maybe we can sit around and post about how great it would be if Indianapolis had an earthquake and fell off into the ocean.LOL! BRAVO!
To: FITZ
That's a year and a half ago, any follow-ups? Did they actually do it? How does this assist the invasion?

Same challenge as to the other two: PROVE IT. You guys keep saying this over and over and yet where's the proof? The best anybody's come up with is an 18 month old plan (with no indication it was executed) to hand out granola bars and snake bite kits. If you want me to believe there is an invasion being orchestrated by the Mexican government PROVE IT.

Show me where I've said ANYTHING good about illegal aliens. I haven't, and I won't. That's the basic problem with this crowd, you go on and on about how bad Mexicans are, you never qualify it to just illegal aliens, it's always the broadstroke Mexicans, then when people point out how full of crap you are you accuse them of apologizing for illegal aliens, which they aren't. You're focus is always on Mexicans as a whole legal and otherwise until you've been cornered in your lies and BS, then all of a sudden you back down and claim you're only trying to stop the illegals.
Well consulates aren't for illegal aliens, they're for tourists and legal resident aliens. Get over it.

Well consulates aren't for illegal aliens, they're for tourists and legal resident aliens. Mexico uses its consulates to hand our consular ID cards to illegal aliens.

3 posts in a row with groundless baseless slander, capping it off with accusing me of committing felonies. Lucky you FR is all done under assumed names or you'd be hearing from my lawyer before you ever read this post. Respond to what I wrote, not the BS you made up while reading it.

You're quite right, good thing that doesn't describe me. Go ahead, find the post where I've said anything positive about illegal immigration or immigrants. I dare you. Of course you're not going to be able to find it, because it's never happened. So get bent.

Here's what I found to be the most interesting:
* Although the Mexican government report calls migration flows "inevitable," the report itself offers no evidence to support this.
Also note a report from the government saying immigration will continue at epic rate for at least 3 decades is not even close to any form of proof that they're SENDING people, which is the repeated and unsubstatiated accusation.
To: sarcasm
More unsubstantiated claims. Cough up the proof.
To: discostu
The Mexican government has proudly announced that they give ID cards to illegal aliens - you're the one who's in denial.

BTW the Mexican consulates hands out those stinking martricula consular card to their illegal aliens. Legal Mexicans are in no need of these despicable& insulting documents. This is America not Mexico. I want as little as possible to do with that corrupt cesspit.
