You sound like the Republicans have 61 Senators in the Senate, which they do not. They only have 51 (maybe), one of whom, Chafee, may jump. The Republicans cannot end filibusters having only 51 Senate seats. A skillful and stubborn Democrat political infighter will tie the Senate into knots, the Republicans will be unable to do anything without Democrat cooperation.
That right there is sad. Any numbers on total votes cast, that is to say, did the Republican voters simply not vote in those races, or did they swing Dem? Here in CT-3 we had Dem/GOP/Green running for House, but the only L representation was for Treasurer, Comptroller, Secretary of State. Didn't even have ANY third parties running against Rowland/Curry for governor.
I predict you'll be more accurate than any pollster from 4 November.
But I think Republicans are going to pass laws to make government bigger. Dems won't stop that. I also think they're going to renew big government, unconstitutional legislation that expires (assault weapons ban). Dems won't stop that either. What's the excuse then?
You're welcome! Next time run a better candidate with better ideas and you won't have to cry that someone else screwed you. Maybe next time your party should address the concerns of freedom lovers and earn their vote.
IL can say much the same for Cal Skinner. I don't know how much of the vote Cal got, but it is likely that Jim Ryan would have won there rather than the Democrat were it not for Cal.
Better check the results, the Republican lost all by himself. He sucks, they deserved to lose.
Let's keep in mind that Libertarians and Republicans are generally going in the same direction.
Bzzt, put on your dunce cap and go to the back of the class and stand in the corner.
All of this is aimed at the author of the article.
A common misconception. Enemies of freedom are the opponents of Libertarians. Most Republicans at this time fall into that catagory along with Democrats.
That I would love to see. If the Greens/LP together could get enough seats in the House to prevent a clear GOP/Dem majority either way, only then will there be a chance for issues to actually be debated, openly, with people making principled decisions. Reading DU (and having paid attention the last two years), the Dems seem to be self-destructing, which will only help the Greens. Right-center and left-center are both too wishywashy for me.
If you really believe that Libertarians all come from the Republican column, you need help.
I hope this moves your party towards freedom and away from DEMOlite. If not, may they never win again.

Or you can continue to vote for massive pork farm bills, prescription drugs, social security, and other Dem planks. That'll guarantee you more spoilers later.
Ahhh, the beginings of the excuses start the day after the election.
which will pass very quickly thanks to the likes of people like you.....I blame the Liberaltarians for the democrats victory, for the taxes, for the new benefits, etc etc..
But I will say now loudly....liberaltarians are about drugs and pornography......
it is their mantra.....
By all probability the Dems will tie the Senate in knots and the Republican excuse about not getting their agenda out will be that their majority is not big enough to stop a filibuster. I dispise the Dems but one has to give the devil his due sometimes, they know how to use the rules to their advantage and are bold about it. The Pubs never learned how to opperate well in the minority. (Then again the cynical look held by some would be they they intentionally don't want to as they agree with the Dem agenda in spirit differing only in degree)
I would not at all say the libertarian agenda is losing ground. The nation is far less statist than it was under Clinton, and continues to trend in our direction. The authoritarian left has less power than at any time since Reagan, and the right is less authoritarian than it once was.
Being able to swing an election contest between the two colossal parties, we have more power than if we were dedicated to one party. Sure we are natural allies to the GOP, since republicanism and libertarianism are perfectly compatible, but our principles prevent us from supporting an authoritarian GOPer for the same reason we don't support Democrats - we want government out of our lives and out of our business. Whoever gives us that gets our votes. It's usually the GOP candidate, but not always - and not being able to take us for granted prevents many a GOP candidate from turning into a RINO rat.
LOL! (thanks, I needed that)
If you are a true conservative, or a true republican, then you will see a lot of other things from libertarians first:
Any so-called conservative who sees the libertarian as anything other than the most natural of friends and allies is an ideological fanatic and a fool.
And they will continue for the next two to four years, then they will be renewed.
