First of all, Reagan's tax cuts weren't big enough. I think he got what he could, and thank God for that. Second, not every Republican can be Reagan. Men like that are few and far between.
Third, yes Clinton did worry about the Brady Bill. The Dims goal is to CONFISCATE EVERY GUN IN AMERICA. However, they can't come out and say that, because they know Americans would ever put up with it. So, they do it one step at a time, and demonize guns and gun owners along the way so that when the day comes that they push for the confiscation of ALL guns, the vast majority of Americans will accept it.
And yes, they should be able to make meaningful headway, and if they don't we should vote for more conservative candidates WHO HAVE A CHANCE TO ACTUALLY WIN next time.
IF YOU DON'T WIN, YOU CAN'T IMPLEMENT YOUR POLICY

In case it hadn't occured to you, I have.

the only person in that race that had a chance, any chance of beating Ron Kirk, was John Cornyn. End of story. Knowing that, it was an easy choice. For a realist.

In case it hadn't occured to you, I have.So in that case, you will not be doing anything different to "hold them accountable"?
So much for holding them accountable. LOL You ARE a funny guy!
To: Republic of Texas
So, in a nutshell you're saying the stakes are so high that you're forced to compromise.

The most successful party in American history, the Socialist party, never elected anyone. But they were able to get their entire agenda enacted.

Today, the Senate is slightly more conservative than on Monday. That is good. If we all continue to force our government to become more conservative, that will be good. If we get the government to conform to the Constitution, that would be more than great. If you have any ideas on how to make that happen tommorrow, I'm all ears.

Let's keep in mind that Libertarians and Republicans are generally going in the same direction. What a lame-brained statement.

Actually you are correct except for one thing, the name of the party. They are actually called Democrats. And they enacted all that socialism while they had control of Congress for 40 years. They were in control and the Socialists weren't for one reason.
The Socialists wanted to enact a Socialist form of government in one fell swoop. The Democrats knew Americans would never go for that, so they did it incrementally, and held power for 40 years. We can learn from that, if we choose to.
To: Republic of Texas
If you have any ideas on how to make that happen tommorrow, I'm all ears.I have never said it will happen today. Only that it will NEVER happen with your strategy. Your strategy seems to be holding their feet to the fire by NOT holding their feet to the fire. You admitted that you are already doing what you are threatening to do. It's a farce. Low comedy.
To: tdadams
That is my dream, but as I noted further along in that comment, the part you didn't copy, I don't think that will happen tommorrow, but we can move in that direction.
The general population of our country has been brainwashed by socialism for 40 years. We WILL NOT change that in one day, or week or year. Some we can change, some will die off, the rest will be new blood. I don't like it, but that's reality.
To: ThomasJefferson
I vote, I write, I donate money, I try to change minds. It will take more than me. If I alone could make the change, our government would abide by the Constitution and nothing else. That's why those of us with much in common have to fight socialism together. That's how the Socialists did it to us.
To: ThomasJefferson
BTW, what is YOUR strategy to make it happen? If you punish Republicans to get Libertarians elected, Democrats get elected. When that happens they enact socialist legislation. Then the people get used to it and expect more from the gov't. Then the job of rolling back socialism becomes that much harder.
Our primary job is NOT electing people, it's EDUCATING people.
To: Republic of Texas
Our primary job is NOT electing people, it's EDUCATING people. I'm trying to educate you. That Republicans are playing you like a fiddle. You vote out of fear. They scare you with the spectre of Democrats being elected. Then they do precisely what the Democrats would have done. It's ludicrious.
Your idea of the function of parties is incorrect. The primary job of political parties is not education. The primary job of political parties is to elect people.
Educating people is the primary job of other organisations. Think tanks and the like.

Why are Libetarians considered to be a RIGHT wing party?
To: logic101.net
How are the Libertarians funded?
To: ThomasJefferson
I didn't say it was the Party's job to educate people I said it was OUR job. Here, let me show you:
Our primary job is NOT electing people, it's EDUCATING people.
I don't work for a party.
To: Letitring
Why are Libetarians considered to be a RIGHT wing party? They are only concidered that by people who are ignorant of political theory. They are not LEFT wing either.
To: ThomasJefferson
I always thought they had elements of both. I tend to favor many Libertarian tenents, and since I hate socialism, I believe the, especially during political warfare, "enemy of my enemy is my friend". That's how we won WWII, siding with the Soviets.
