LIBERTARIANS; THE SOCIALIST'S BEST FRIEND
THE LOGICAL VIEW ^ | 11/06/02 | MARK A SITY

TIME FOR AN END TO THE CONSERVATIVE INFIGHTING MARK A SITY 11/6/02

When WI taxpayers burden skyrockets, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When Milwaukee and the surrounding area are saddled with a light rail system few want, and no one will ride, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When caps on property taxes are removed, and property taxes skyrocket, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When welfare reform is de-reformed in WI, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When public schools in WI get even worse, and the public school teachers get huge raises, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When WI residents find their rights to defend themselves against criminals who break into their homes weakened, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When companies leave WI, or decide not to set up shop here due to our repressive tax structure, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When Gov Jim "bingo" Doyle rewards his contributors, at the expense of the taxpayers (as he has a history of doing), we have Ed Thompson to thank.

Who is Ed Thompson? Ed is the brother of Tommy, our former governor; the current HHS Secretary. Ed was the Libertarian candidate for governor in WI. Ed gave the Governor's Mansion to Bingo Jim by getting 10% of the vote. Governor McCallum lost the election by only 3%. Thanks Ed.

IL can say much the same for Cal Skinner. I don't know how much of the vote Cal got, but it is likely that Jim Ryan would have won there rather than the Democrat were it not for Cal. One good thing for WI residents over IL residents; at least we can pronounce and spell Bingo Jim's name. I won't even try either for the IL Governor Elect!

Let's keep in mind that Libertarians and Republicans are generally going in the same direction. True, the Republicans don't want to go as far as Libertarians, and there are some very contrary views. However, both generally want a smaller federal government that is less intrusive. Democrats on the other hand want bigger and bigger government. They want hand outs. They want dependency. They want Socialism rather than freedom! They want gun control rather than criminal control. They want ignorant sheeple rather than an informed, educated self-dependent population. I prefer much of the Libertarian agenda to that of the Republicans, but I find the Democrat agenda totally repulsive. Libertarians often hand elections to the Democrats, by taking away conservative leaning votes. When a Libertarian candidate's message resonates with the public; Democrats win! A Democratic win doesn't help Republicans, Libertarians, or Constitutionalists! It sets back all of our causes. It is well past time for Libertarians and Republicans to get together to defeat the common enemy. We can work out our differences later; let's get rid of the common threat first! As far as my views; neither Libertarians nor Republicans go far enough; I am a Constitutionalist! Yet, I generally vote Republican; I'm a realist. When we break the stranglehold of the left, then we can fight each other; but let's fight each other on our terms, not theirs!

Now, as far as Ed Thompson goes; well I have to steal a line from one of my favorite movies (They Call Me Trinity). I'm not mad at Ed, I'm mad at his ma. She should have strangled him, or at least drown him when he was born.

Frankly, I'm not sure all of us Republicans want our party to be 'right' leaning enough to court the Libertarians. For example, I oppose legalization of marijuana, while I know many Libertarians are almost fanatical about that issue. I'm strongly pro-life, while many Libertarians I know would oppose any efforts to limit abortion. Seems to me that courting the Libertarians would require the Republicans to give up some of what drew many of us to the party in the first place.

Most of us would be content with turning those to key points back over to the States. Nothing in the Constitution gives the Feds the power to legislate on those two issues.

Of course, this would require ending the WOD, de-fund the DEA, as well as over-turning Roe V. Wade.

It isn't so much that we support drug abuse and abortion as we feel that government power is being horribly misused.

Remember the most consistent Conservative Republican in office today is former Libertarian Presidential Candidate Ron Paul. Would that we had a few hundred more like him.

That is exactly the point. Paul's election as a REPUBLICAN proves that the best way for the libertarian voice to be heard is within the the Republican Party. You can't change the party if you abandon it.

I thought one of the roles of government was to protect the citizens of the nation. I know many do not view the unborn child as a 'citizen' but I do and think it is perfectly right and acceptable for the government to protect that child from being murdered.

Real libertarians who understand the issue are very rabidly pro-life. It's only the ones who have been confused by decades of Dem propoganda who think the issue is the liberty of a woman. The truth is abortion is an issue of the liberty of a human child. First on the list of inalienable rights dear to the hearts of libertarians is the right to life.

The Republicans in Wisconsin now control both the state assembly and state senate. The only way the tax burden here skyrockets is if the Republicans send Doyle a budget that raises taxes.

If you consider abortion murder, then that is a State charge. Not a Federal one. The Constitution is pretty clear on what a "Federal Crime" is.

You might want to re-read the Constitution. There is no individual Constitutional Right to have the Government protect them from craddle to grave. Article III, Sec. 2 is pretty clear about what belong to the State judiciary.

Dear Libertarians, We're really sorry we didn't get your .03 percent of the vote last night. We really, really missed having it.

Thanks anyway. Enjoy your obscurity.

Love,

The Republican Party

OK, does anyone else see a disconnect here?

(For the record, I voted Republican in all but two races yesterday).

The Republicans are trying to go in the right direction when compared to the Socalist/Democrat party

Really? Somebody better tell Elizabeth Dole that then. Dole, in her wisdom, has decided the federal government should pass a law requiring the states to drug test teens before receiving their driver's license. If they don't according to her, they don't get to step up to the national teat and receive their influx of road money.

Now this would be the same Elizabeth Dole that did the same thing in regards to seatbelts and speed limits. I was under the mistaken assumption that the national government could not interfere with domestic affairs of the states. However I realize this is a mistaken assumption since no politician knows what the Constitution says and the 10th Amendment was thrown down the drain 140 years ago.

Personally, I'm glad Giddy got in. I'm glad the Republicans won the Senate and the House. That way they have no more excuses. It's time to crap or get off the pot

that makes sense....I don't think we want to think like libertarians....

infact, I think if there is a concerted effort we could make a lot of people from the left wing think more libertarian...afterall, it's all the same issues they support....abortion, pornography, drugs everywhere and anywhere....

of course there is that little gun ownership thingy that most demos and leftist don't like but hey, to me the liberaltarians and the leftist demos are very similar...

so our job should be to secretly support financially the liberltarians....especially on college campuses where there is rampant drug use....those are the kinds of voters that could leave the democrats to vote libertarian.....

there you go....Plan A on how to defeat Democrats with the help of the liberaltarians....

Let's keep in mind that Libertarians and Republicans are generally going in the same direction.

This is a crock, not even close. I can hardly tell Repubs and Demos apart anymore:

1) Free prescription drugs for old folks
2) Acting like social security is a good thing
3) Turning the country into a police state
4) Warmongering
5) "Protecting" US businesses with anti-free trade policies
6) Jumping on the anti-business post-Enron bandwagon
7) Spending billions on handouts for farmers
8) Continuing property rights violations in the "war on drugs"

All these are Republican staples that are entirely anti-libertarian. The only thing I can see they have in their favor is being less hostile to gun ownership and giving some lip service to tax cuts. I think 80% of you guys are actually libertarians, but continue to identify with the Republican party for some unknown reason. Look at the positions the candidates really take on the issues. It's probably more valid to say that Republicans are the socialists best friend because they move that way every day, taking with them voters who still think they are voting for freedom.

It isn't so much that we support drug abuse and abortion as we feel that government power is being horribly misused.

Then the Libertarian Party ought to follow the lead of the Constitution Party and cease their advocacy of moral-liberal-based and social-Darwinist-based arguments.

Maybe if the GOP candidate had done something to, you know, inspire the support of the Ls

The Republican Party just won the most historic mid-term election for a Republican President in the last 100 years. I don't think they are going to pander to the self-important libertarians. The liberatarian candidate in California for governor, who was a total wacko Druid, still got 2 percent against conservative Bill Simon.

However, both generally want a smaller federal government that is less intrusive.

If the GOP wants a smaller federal government that is less intrusive, they certainly have a peculiar way of pursuing that goal. Namely, they consistently work towards the opposite, in spite of their "conservatism".

The problem with rank and file Republicans is they fail to disinguish loyal rhetoric and good intentions from what actually results. They vote for Republicans who grow government and destroy the Constitution because Republicans are supposed to shrink government and respect the Constitution. Never mind what actually happens.

Don't you effing DARE compare the Libertarian stance on firearms to that of the liberals. Come to think of it, don't even bother trying to compare it to the GOP's stance either with their "reasonable gun control" issues.

You've got absolutely no shame what-so-ever to even try. Go wash your mind out with soap for even thinking such an outrageous lie.
