Removing the foreskin allows the head of the penis to be cleaned much easier, thereby reducing the risk of bladder infections in infants and toddlers, and the potential for causing uterine infections in wives later on in life. It eliminates the potential for foreskin fusion to the penis, which can prevent the head of the penis from emerging beyond the foreskin during an erection. Further, it reduces the risk of penile cancer.
Circumcision is no longer SOP in hospitals. Parents are asked whether they want the procedure or not. FTR, my husband and I chose not have our son circumcised. We left him exactly as God made him.
You've made a wise decision. Foreskin has a lot of nerve endings and the cut people don't know what they are missing. Besides, mutilation is an ugly custom.
Too bad because your son is gonna be mighty pissed off at you later in life when he does get circumcised. At that point in his life it will be painful. You should have done it when he felt almost nothing and definitely remembers none of what little pain there is. I had a friend of mine who got circumcised for health reasons as an adult and he was angry at his folks for not having him circumcised as a baby.
My friends in Poland cannot believe me that Americans do circumcice their sons. Outside of America circumcision is done only by Muslism, religious Jews and some tribal societies.
