This particular festival is ancient and tribal, not muslim. There are parallels, however.

The Muzzie cult arises from that very tribal environment. It consists of a set of rules to keep order in a polygamist, tribal society, substantially by blaming women, and their spouses or male family members, for not protecting them from other men. It's difficult to separate the Muzzies laws from the local culture.
