A father accused of killing the man who allegedly raped and abducted his teenage daughter has won the Republican primary for county sheriff in Arkansas - despite him awaiting trial for murder.
Aaron Spencer, 37, secured 53.5 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s Republican primary for Lonoke County sheriff, defeating longtime incumbent John Staley, who received 26.5 percent.
The result puts Spencer in the unusual position of potentially becoming the top law enforcement officer in the same county that charged him with murder.
Spencer has been accused of fatally shooting Michael Fosler, 67, in October 2024 after discovering the man with his teenage daughter.
Fosler had been out on $50,000 bail while facing 43 criminal charges involving the girl, including internet stalking of a child, sexual assault, sexual indecency with a child and possession of child pornography.
Shortly after midnight on October 8, 2024, Spencer and his wife, Heather Spencer, 38, discovered their daughter missing from her bedroom at the family’s farm in Cabot, Arkansas.
After driving roughly 10 miles, Spencer spotted Fosler’s vehicle with their daughter in the passenger seat, according to court documents.
The father made a U-turn and pursued the vehicle, eventually rear-ending it and forcing it off the road.
Spencer later told police he saw his daughter attempting to escape before Fosler grabbed her.
He ordered the man to get out of the car, but Fosler allegedly lunged toward him while shouting 'f**k you,' though authorities have not confirmed whether Fosler was armed.
Moments later, Spencer opened fire until he ran out of bullets, then jumped on the man and pistol-whipped him, according to police.
Prosecutors initially charged Spencer with first-degree murder, but the charge was later reduced to second-degree murder.
His trial was originally scheduled for January, but it has been postponed

Yep.
Don't you about you, but that's in my manual.
Are you serious? That is a terrible thing to say.
My wife is from the area. 20 miles wast on Hwt 70.
She knows the family.
Only the jerk prosecutor thinks he was wrong. That’s not how people in area see it. They agree with it.
I’ve been to Loanoke many, many times. My wife’s family still live where she grew up.
I was there just last September.
The problem is he ran out of ammo. That should be a severe reprimand then a medal after. Other than that I don’t see a problem.
I wish I could have voted dor him!
Kind of like Landman with Cooper almost charged with murder. If the perp dies while doing a criminal act, TFB.

You’re not exactly wrong, but not exactly right either. Multiple states, including Arkansas, have laws on the books specifying the death penalty for child rape. Besides Arkansas, I believe those states include Louisiana, Georgia, Oklahoma, Montana, South Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Idaho.
The laws exist. However, they were blocked by a 5-4 supreme court ruling, written by Justice Kennedy, joined by Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg, and Breyer, in Kennedy vs Louisiana (2008). Yes, the named defendant and the majority opinion author had the same last name. Note that exactly none of the justices who voted against the death penalty are still on the court.
The majority was opposed by Alito, Roberts, and Thomas, all of whom are still on the court, and Scalia, who is not.
So ... 100% of the current members of the supreme court who have, as justices, opined on the death penalty for for rape of a minor have opined that the death penalty is constitutional in such a case.
In Arkansas, at least, it’s not the law that is at fault. It’s a group of previous supreme court justices, none of whom are still on the court.
Sharif? He should be the Governor.
Trial postponed forever I hope.
Congratulations on your political victory. You are now an elected official. Maybe now, would be a good time to sit your 14 year old daughter down in a quiet room and ask her how she happened to hook up with this 67 y/o man in the first place?
I don’t see that part discussed at all.
The girl may have met this guy online and decided to check him out in person, only to get frighten later on at how he was behaving. She (the daughter) needs to face what her role was in this entire incident. She didn’t appear to start off ‘being kidnapped’.
Agree.
It will be fruitless to try to take him to trial. No jury in AR will convict.
Correct.
I have on good authority from a close source that Laz is comfortably at home with a bevy of Hollywood starlets of great beauty.
Then I’ll adjust the aperture to read: American jurisprudence.
Many of those in positions of authority that are supposed to be allowed to serve while doing so in good behavior, are no longer fulfilling that part and need to be removed. My only peace is knowing many will face their moment of justice in due time and will be judged by God accordingly.
WTF man?!?
Awesome!!!! Hope he wins.
The man deserves jury nullification and a medal.
