I remember living off of next year’s money.
Most people now consider their credit card their emergency funds. After a rough six years, I include myself among that group.
Covid and Biden damaged many people. Financially and physically.
This is why Democrats do so well. They promise that the government will take care of you in an emergency. So a lot of people don’t save and then scream for the government to support them in a crisis or in retirement, etc.
Too bad the numbers aren’t broken down by age, or number of adults in household.
Well... after I paid my property taxes I now identify as a household without a $2,000 emergency fund. Can I now get me some gubmint cheese?
“This is why Democrats do so well.”

They are also good at telling people “it’s not your fault”. They always create a boogie man to blame everything on and that makes folks feel better about themselves. Its an old game but it still works.
One of our insurance bills just went up 27%.
The warmth of Collectivism
Yup, mine went up 50%. North of $1k per month now just to pay property taxes and homeowner’s insurance.
There’s a solution. Trump savings accounts at birth and health saving accounts to take care of those emergency room visits that come up. Minimal government involvement.
I find it difficult to save because something always comes up where the funds are seriously needed.
I am ALWAYS skeptical of such surveys - especially in 2026 America, where everything is political or commercial, and even most Federal Government agencies manipulate statistics for political ends.
The problem with most people is that they do not realize that the democrats and the GOPe are the boogieman.
As I recall, Dave Ramsey calls for people to have at least $1,000 as an emergency savings fund.
We’re all poor.
Upstairs Maid is poor.
Downstairs Maid is poor.
Even our Chauffeur is poor.
Everybody’s poor.

Not a survey.
“As I recall, Dave Ramsey calls for people to have at least $1,000 as an emergency savings fund.”
Three to six months living expenses.
Nice try herr troll. OK its "Estimates of non-retirement savings from the Urban Institute"
I guess that makes it much better than a survey.
