European rearmament is going to turn the world upside down
Daily Telegraph via Yahoo News ^ | Tue, March 4, 2025 at 7:50 AM EST | Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

It has taken three years, but Europe is at last putting its collective economy on an industrial war footing. The sums of money are eye-watering. […]

“It is becoming obvious to everybody that defense spending is the way to offset job losses in the car industry,” said Holger Schmieding, the chief economist at Berenberg Bank. […]

If enacted on anything close to this scale, such a high-octane blast of military Keynesianism will entirely change the economic and geopolitical shape of the world. It is the coming boom in Europe that we should all be betting on.

Bavaria’s premier Markus Söder is the weather-vane of our times, leading the call for a full-blown revival of German military power along with a joint nuclear deterrent in concert with France and the UK.

“We need a drone force of 100,000 drones, 800 new tanks, 2,000 Patriot missiles and 1,000 Taurus just for Germany as a protective shield like the ‘Iron Dome’. Only the strong will be taken seriously,” he said. […]

The coalition of the willing will have to rearm mostly outside the EU structure given the vetoes of Hungary and the Russophile bloc.

Joint debt issuance is needed to shield high-debt states from a bond market attack but this can be done through a new agency akin to development banks, and should include the UK, Norway and Canada. …

Evans-Pritchard used to be anti-EU until TDS infected his thinking.

Never mind this Söder fellow.

Over the last 100 years, whenever Europe has armed up, bad things happen, WW I and II come to mind.

A lot of the liberals in Europe including the UK seem hellbent on starting a war with Russia.

Someone tell these people that weapons need crews. Are they going to reinstitute conscription?

And with that, they're also going to need a permanent standing Army of at least 500K, not to mention what they'll need for Navy and Air Force

Will their African/Muslim migrants sign up for this?

Borrowing is an ancient way through to finance military spending. Hitler did exactly this during the pre-WW2 buildup.

But to restore German/Euro military power in the present circumstances, it makes sense.

Also a rebuild of military manufacturing capacity is a social good in itself.

The tiny percentage of the world’s white population is arming itself again.

Drones and smart weapons have turned front line troops into dead men walking.

These guys are sappers of the Legion, they march as the tête de colonne in a battalion parade. They are NCO’s.

Why does it “make sense”? Especially since they’re talking like they’re enemies of the USA, something Trump pointed out in his first term?

Not the elites. They’re friends with Russia behind the scenes and in spite of their rhetoric.

Because they need to catch up quickly, and moreover build out capacity. Ongoing financing can be worked out in time.

They are doing exactly what Trump told them to do. What’s the problem? In the process Trump pissed a lot of them off, but thats a natural consequence of his sort of “persuasion”.

Really? Welcoming hostile Muslim invaders and going into debt for them followed by debt-financed rearmament?

Any arms will be used by their Islamicized militaries to murder or forcibly convert the native populations.

IF anyone will loan them money to start.

The opposite question needs to be asked.

It’d make sense under a US-led NATO framework (take note I said US-led, not EU-led as it is now). Either way, the Eurocrats hate NATO; the EU itself is based on hatred of the USA as it is.

More like ending the war in Europe that Putin started.

Putin should have read Machiavelli: "Wars begin when you will, but they do not end when you please."
