Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a strong rebuke of President Donald Trump's decision to level punishing tariffs on their country.
He cited the Wall Street Journal to criticize Trump, and call his decision 'dumb.'
'Donald, they point out that even though you are a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do,' he said angrily at a press conference on Tuesday.
Imports from Canada will now be taxed at 25 percent as Trump's tariffs went into effect on Tuesday.
'Today the United States launched a trade war against Canada, their closest partner and ally, and their closest friend,' Trudeau said. 'At the same time they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin a lying murderous dictator. Make that make sense.'
The United States imported $412 billion worth of goods from Canada in 2024 according to the US Census Bureau as they are the third largest trading partner with the United States.
'Canadians are reasonable and we are polite but we will not back down from a fight, not when our country and the well being of everyone in it is at stake,' Trudeau said.
Justin Trudeau spoke directly to the American people, blaming President Donald Trump for making the decision to level tariffs, warning it would hurt the country economically.
'We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally and we don't want to see you hurt either but your government has chosen to do this to you,' he said.
Trudeau announced that Canada would begin implementing 25 percent tariffs against the $155 billion of American goods, starting with tariffs on $30 billion of goods immediately.

Or... the Canadians that do not have a short attention span... that do have a working brain cell or two... and that do remember the tyranny Trudeau imposed on them during the “Pandemic”... might just see this as yet another example of Trudeau’s crappy “leadership style”.
Which essentially means that Trudeau has brought this new “punishment” on them, once again... since it has been proven that leftists (demon/commie spawn) don’t give a tinker’s damn about “the people”. Their only concern is retaining power and increasing and sustaining their own wealth.
Canada already tarrifs us.

What bothers MD is the fact that world leaders don’t talk to each other and try to solve problems. Instead it plays out in the press and on social media. They or them minions flit about causing mischief and then point fingers with edited content.

If you take a look at 338canada.com, you will see one poll (1000 people surveyed) with the Liberals at a two point lead. Likely if you take out the Toronto area polled, the Tories are still that good bit ahead and other polls conducted at about the same time still show a moderate to strong Conservative lead. It will be interesting to see though, if this trend is to continue.
Also, if the Liberal brand really recovered because of Trump (not to discount that idea completely), Ontario Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie would have won her seat and made further gains against Doug Ford (in the provincial election last week).
Actually, that is when Trudeau’s popularity numbers began it’s real serious nosedive as many thought his response involving no dialogue with the truckers, imposing the Emergency Act, and freezing bank accounts was very heavy handed and incompetent.

It’s a shame our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, cannot be our friend. They aren’t very nice for the most part. Unfortunate location our country has.
