President Donald Trump fired Coast Guard commandant, Admiral Linda L. Fagan, almost immediately after taking office, but she did not hear about it until she was at the Commander in Chief Ball that evening.
Fagan found out she was fired as she was waiting to have a photo taken with Trump at the ball, according to a military official speaking to the New York Times. Fagan did not respond to a request for comment.
The Department of Homeland Security sent the bulletin featuring news of her job termination to the Coast Guard leadership the morning after Inauguration Day
'She served a long and illustrious career, and I thank her for her service to our nation,' the message read from acting DHS Secretary Benjamine C. Huffman said shortly.
The department revealed in a statement that Admiral Fagan was removed because of 'leadership deficiencies, operational failures and inability to advance the strategic objectives of the U.S. Coast Guard' including a failure to secure the border and stop drugs from entering the United States.
The statement also accused Fagan of failing to recruit and retain personnel and had an 'excessive focus' on DEI programs.
Admiral Kevin Lunday, Coast Guard's No. 2 in command, was named acting Coast Guard commandant in her stead.
Biden nominated Fagan as Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard in April 2022, as her supporters hailed her as the first female admiral in a position of leadership of one of the armed forces branches.

The fall 1940 maneuvers with troops under commanding Major Generals Albert Blanding and Walter Krueger showed that National Guard troops needed additional training and that the army suffered from an appalling lack of modern equipment. Several famous images from the 1940 maneuvers showed the frightening aspect of American troops training with wooden sticks marked “rifle” and with trucks marked “tank” on their sides because adequate numbers of the real items were not available.
My captain was relieved of his command over excessive AWOL’s.
Is she a real woman? You never know these days.
At first I thought it bad taste for Trump to do such a thing.
But I got over it quickly.

This is being reported, whether true or not, to make Trump appear mean and cruel.
Come on, all you Coast Guard people. Let’s get a group picture, (Not so fast, Linda.)

That’s “adios muchacha”...
Yes.
Our military now is only roughly 15% of what we had in 1944-45.
Great! If she didn’t bother to read a work related memo from that morning she was neglecting her job. Nothing brutal about it.

Just PROVES she wasn’t up to the job!!
Well, that’s going to leave a mark. I’m amazed she wasn’t looking for it to happen.
Anybody in govt or media nice to Trump?
So he stopped being nice first....just get the job done.
DEI is not nice, it us brutally mean. Rip off the bandage and disinfect the wound with fresh peroxide!!!!
After reading the reasons for her firing it is a shock that she was relieved of command. NOT! LOL!

IIRC, he was creative where it came to firing Comey. That was pretty good.
