Doug Burgum, Trump’s pick for public lands boss, questions reliability of renewable power

President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for interior secretary told a Senate panel Thursday the U.S. can leverage development of fossil fuels and other energy sources to promote world peace and voiced concerns about the reliability of renewable power sources promoted under the Biden administration.

Former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum described Trump’s aspiration to achieve U.S. “energy dominance” as a way to counter demand for fossil fuels from autocratic nations — Russia, Iran and Venezuela — that have fewer environmental safeguards.

Burgum also said the U.S. needs to make more “baseload” electricity from coal and other sources as it seeks to power data centers for the nation’s tech industry. If confirmed, Burgum would become the chief steward of federal lands. […]

The Republican’s security claims were challenged by Hawaii Democrat Sen. Mazie Hirono who said military leaders have described global warming as a threat that could trigger instability and wars. …

Military leaders take orders.

Grid integration has always been the issue.

Glad to hear this. From what little I know about him I was a bit concerned that he was “green on the inside”.

Should be interesting...Trump has always said....we need every form of energy.

“Burgum as governor outlined plans to make the state carbon neutral by 2030. And he touted a pipeline that would be used to capture and store greenhouse gases that fuel climate change. Burgum told lawmakers Thursday the U.S. has an opportunity to remove the carbon from burning fossil fuels while promoting new development.”

This is the globalist horror that he is in his position for.

Disgusting.

Of course its unreliable. That’s why backup systems are needed when the wind don’t blow and the sun don’t shine.

Burgum can start by unlocking the extensive anthracite coal deposits in the Grande Escalante national monument lands locked up by Bill Clinton as a favor to the Indonesian Riady family

At one time, it was basically assumed that Patty Murray was the least intelligent and most inflexible member of the US Senate. Mazie Hirono has Patty beat in spades.

Anthropogenic climate change, if any exists at all, is infinitesimal compared to what effects that natural climate change may have, and is largely self-cancelling. A small microclimate may exist in the immediate vicinity of extraordinarily intense heat production, but NONE of it comes from any effects of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is plant foot, and absolutely essential in the maintenance of the oxygen supply in the atmosphere.

Instability and wars are triggered by ideology, personal aggrandizement of egos, or desperate economic crises. Global warming isn’t even in the top 10,000 reasons.

But the myth of global warming is a powerful weapon in the hands of the willfully ignorant in their quest for power and/or influence.

True but grid stability is even bigger.

The grid has to be balanced, not too much energy and not too little.

If the power demands increase and the capacity is not there you cant simply make the sun brighter or speed up the wind to match the load. Then there is night time lol

“Military leaders take orders.”

And are also weak spined butt kissers after that next promotion that when retired, could get them a nice MIC job.

We need a few Patton’s and MacArthur’s and run the sorry ones off.

Do you listen to Mazie Hirono? Her voice would seem about as reliable as “green energy”. I don’t know a lot about her views on global warming, but perhaps she the thinks we can modify it. If there really is any global warming, which to me would mean the philosophy that the whole globe is warming (I think science indicates otherwise), then perhaps she thinks we can change it when we weren’t the ones that would have created it. Just my humble opinion.

The backup systems are capable of supplying our needs without the green energy. Why pay for two expensive systems? You need to look at the comparative costs of the two systems & which is the most reliable.

There is no question that too much non-dispatchable power on the grid leads to grid stability problems. The only people questioning it are the politically “correct”.

Uh oh... here we go again with Trump’s beautifull-tremendous-bigly Rino picks. Choosing a member of the ganggreen to supervise drilling is like taking the fox to guard the henhouse. What a travesty.

“Renewable reliability”; why is this even framed as a question?

The elephant in the room is silicon PV. This is not an energy source, nor is it “renewable”. A slicon PV panel will not generate enough electricity throughout its entire lifetime to produce another one like it. This represents a net loss in energy, not a source of energy. It takes an enormous amount of power to purify silicon so that it becomes photoreactive. Couple that with the average silicon PV panel losing 5% output per year and you have a very expensive recipe for disaster. Some years ago US West hired my company to install PV arrays to serve as backup power for a dozen or so rural cellular telephone sites in Nevada and Arizona. After five years they hired us again to remove all of it. The reasons cited for removal were the amount of time it took to clean the accumulated dust off the panels (deserts are very dusty), lighting transients that took out panels and controllers, hail that took out panels, and the overall loss of output that dropped the supply voltage from the panels below the battery voltage. IOW, they were no longer created a positive electron flow towards the batteries. These were top of the line Bosch panels, not Chinese junk. As a side note, Bosch has since left the industry after loosing billions. Silicon PV is a boondoggle of EPIC proportions.
