LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Republican activists in swing states say they have seen little sign of the teams tasked with knocking on doors and turning out infrequent voters on behalf of Donald Trump, raising concerns about the party's presidential nominee relying on outside groups for an important part of his campaign operations.
Trump and the Republican National Committee he controls opted to share get-out-the-vote duties in key parts of the most competitive states this year with groups such as America PAC, the organization supported by billionaire Elon Musk.
It is difficult to demonstrate that something is not happening. But with fewer than 50 days until the Nov. 5 election, dozens of Republican officials, activists and operatives in Michigan, North Carolina and other battleground states say they have rarely or never witnessed the group’s canvassers. In Arizona and Nevada, the Musk-backed political action committee replaced its door-knocking company just this past week.
“I haven’t seen anybody," said Nate Wilkowski, field director for the Republican Party in vote-rich Oakland County, Michigan, which includes crucial Detroit suburbs. He was speaking specifically of America PAC. “Nobody’s given me a heads-up that they’re around in Oakland County areas.”

I'm not in these battleground states - so for you folks in them - is this your experience that there is no actual GOTV going on, or is this just people who are normally in charge of it getting their feelings hurt because they aren't in charge this time around? There's obviously nothing precluding the state parties from getting volunteers to man phone banks and door to door operations (including providing rides to the polls) in addition to whatever these other groups are doing or not doing, is there?
Even if this article is not accurate it still has the effect of being demoralizing to the party faithful who read it.
I wouldn’t do it. The county gop has the name and address of every republican and should direct it foot soldiers at their addresses. When I bring it up it falls on deaf ears. I may know nothing other than when I’m wasting my time.
I HATED door knocking...leaving brochures is better time mgmt. People generally (IMHO) do not want to discuss politics with a stranger at their frontdoor.
BTW...most county parties do direct info at GOP and independents.
Another day another dispiriting propogana piece from AP. Yawn.
The democrats have so degraded society that it a pretty big risk to go knocking on doors for Trump. Someone will get killed by one of their mentally sick people.
This is just more propaganda designed to explain the cheat later on.
Democrats knocking on doors are like Jehovah’s Witnesses. The ‘Do Not Solicit’ sign doesn’t mean anything as they are not solicitors. It’s religion to them. We gotta deal with their money advantage too.
Kamala is desperate for a second debate... That’s all you need to know. Winners don’t ask for rematches... Losers do.
Trump won both debates despite the media’s assertion that he didn’t and 50+ million watched the first one... 60+ million watched the second one.
Most are at Trump rallies.
Yes, maybe Republicans are just respectful enough not to bother people at home. Democrats, on the other hand, enjoy that sort of thing.
That's the best thing to do at this point.
I agree about the brochures. But I’ll only read those that aren’t crazy over the top.
“My opponent is a Nazi!”
Eh, probably not. Into the trash that brochure goes.
“Elect me, and I’ll change the DC culture forever!”
Eh, probably not. Into the trash that brochure goes.
“These are my top three concerns.”
Hmm. Tell me more.
And the radical democrats with their spiel on guilt would make a Jewish mother or Catholic nun cringe.
Door-knocking? Maybe Republicans should shove scribbled notes under car windshield wipers?
The only door knocking I have ever done is exactly that.
Knocking on Republican’s doors to make sure that they had gone out and voted on Election Day.
Turn out has usually been the determining factor for elections.
Oddly, just south of Orlando, we have twice gotten door to door campaigners for GOP candidates. My brother and I, as Republican super voters, always give them words of encouragement.
Do people knock on doors anymore? There are so many weirdos out there now, I imagine a lot of people are reluctant to knock on random strangers’ doors.
People disinclined / lazy to vote are at Trump rallies?
No, they aren't. Just a very small fraction of those who are enthusiastic to vote will even show up at rallies. They are well attended, but there aren't hundreds of thousands / millions of them showing up at each one. So certainly not "most" of those lazy GOP who would likely vote for him but don't pay attention - if only they would show up. That's the entire basis for GOTV operations.
I believe it. I went to a local Trump deal in Virginia looking for volunteers to help. They are clueless how to run anything. It was a cluster F***. only thing they wanted to do is sit around and talk about crap.
GOP needs to get much better organization. Maybe next election cycle I’ll get in early and fix this crap. It was truly pathetic. I let them know that as well. I told them if we want Trump to win VA we need to do a lot better than the cluster F*** they hosted that day.
I don’t need anyone knocking on my door. I’ve voted reliably GOP since I was of age to have some basic sense.
The Trump campaign doesn’t need to be talking to those such as myself and my family. They need to be going after the non-voters, the disaffected Democrats, and the youth vote.
