A great song by a great band.
Buttigieg and Levine like “Lola”.
“I wonder what’s French-Canadian for ‘I grew up without a mother’?”

Some great conservative/libertarian tunes from the Kinks.
Muswell Hillbilly
20th Century Man
“I was born in a welfare state
Ruled by bureaucracy
Controlled by civil servants
and people dressed in grey
Don’t have privacy
Don’t have liberty
Cause the 20th Century people took them all away from me.”
WOW! I got that 45 back in the days when you got a bag of ramdom records free when you bought a record player!!
I think it’s the B side of Sunny Afternoon.
Lotsa great Kinks songs!
Long ago life was clean
Sex was bad, called obscene
And the rich were so mean
Stately homes for the Lords
Croquet lawns, village greens
Victoria was my queen
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, ‘toria
I was born, lucky me
In a land that I love
Though I am poor, I am free
When I grow I shall fight
For this land I shall die
Let her sun never set
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, ‘toria
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, ‘toria
Land of hope and gloria
Land of my Victoria
Land of hope and gloria
Land of my Victoria
Victoria, ‘toria
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, ‘toria
Canada to India
Australia to Cornwall
Singapore to Hong Kong
From the West to the East
From the rich to the poor
Victoria loved them all
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria, ‘toria
Victoria, Victoria, Victoria
Ray has always been a thinker imo. I could hear it in his songs reflecting what he saw. Does that make sense? Hard to put into laymen terms. Don’t say that very often because I like to think that I have an above average command of words.
Muswell Hillbillies is a great album from start to finish.

That was Tony Soprano’s song
My favorite scene in the entire show.
That is a great song I haven’t heard in decades. You have great taste my man!
Yeah could be mine too.
The producers somehow got a live version of that song. It’s quite rare to hear it anywhere else.
They played a fair bit of The Kinks over the series run, usually in pivotal moments.
o i bet ray davies is gonna get tweaked by this
one interview marked him as a sneering, whining leftist imho. perhaps he was having a bad day.
Catch Me Now I’m Falling has a nice groove, if a bit condescending, as does Jukebox Music.
