Is the U.S. relationship with Israel still worth it?
The Hill ^ | 09/02/24 | K. Ward Cummings

As the anniversary of 9/11 approaches, I find myself asking out loud a question I’ve whispered to myself often since the Twin Towers came down: Is the U.S. relationship with Israel worth it?

This was a lot easier to answer during the Cold War, when the U.S. supported Israel in order to counterbalance Soviet influence in the region. But, that was a long time ago, and though the Russians are still active in the Middle East, it’s not on the same scale.

Stable oil markets are also a longtime reason we have supported Israel, but that situation is changing too, as the U.S. is now the leading producer of oil on the planet.

Of course, Israel continues to help the U.S. in many important ways politically in the region. But I still feel compelled to ask: Is that enough?

The U.S. has paid a heavy price for our relationship with Israel over the years — not just in treasure, but also in blood. According to the 9/11 Commission, U.S. support for Israel was a key reason for the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s animus toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences (in the U.S.) as a student, but rather from this violent disagreement with U.S. foreign policy favoring Israel,” reads the commission’s report.

If you are old enough to remember the U.S. energy crisis in the 1970s and the gasoline rationing that came with it, you may also remember that the fuel shortage was the result of Arab nations cutting the United States’ oil supply because they were angry about American support for Israel during the Yom Kippur War.

Or perhaps you remember the 1983 bombing of a U.S. Marine barracks in Lebanon, in which 241 U.S. service members were killed.

“The Hill” is such a piece of garbage it boggles the mind how anybody can still take it seriously.

Might as well be The Atlantic or Vanity Fair.

It’s painfully-obvious what they are these days.

Unbelievable, but this is the overwhelming view of Commie Kamala and her minions at the RAT party. Every Jewish voter should read this before voting.

It isn't about Israel.

Newsflash dude, the Muslims have always and will always keep murdering masses of "infidels" without any reference to the state of Israel.

Mass murder is the signature method of spreading Islam. Has been from the start.

It’s a fair question. It’s not like the Arabs are going to become our friends. Israel has a lot more to offer the world and Islam is determined to spread. The oil is too much of a curse to them. The best we can do is to drill our own and export natural gas. That means keeping our leftists in check while Israel does the same. They’re winning over their neighbors so perhaps time is on their side Biden/Kamala notwithstanding.

The author is suggesting that we should perhaps drop our support for Israel to pacify the Muslims. That argument is more than just wrong. It’s disgusting.

Beyond that, he brings up a fair question. We should look at any alliance with both eyes open. I am in favor of supporting Israel for moral reasons more than strategic reasons.

But that doesn’t mean we should be funneling tons of money at them. Israel must pay own way, and stand in its own two feet. Same with Europe. Same with Taiwan, etc.

The article explain there were 10 targets on 911, not just three. In 23 years since we have not enough to prevent the next one. They don’ have this problem in Japan. We’re just not doing our part to answer that question. Was 911 preventable? Ask yourself if the Butler, Pa. shooting was and you’ll have your answer.

This package 📦 was sold to Americans on November 4th, 2008. Boy was it obvious too.

Look at the decline of the nation since then. Jimmy Carter and W. got on board real quick too.

How much did we get yesterday?

About 10 million dollars.

How much came from people with Jewish names?

Over 50 percent.
