Anyone else having this issue?
I have just always backspaced and type what I want in search.
We’ve been targeted for a while.
Thanks for all the feedback. I guess it’s just something I’ll have to live with.
Definitely some kind of glitch in the matrix.
My little cat Zizu is the responsible party for strange stuff appearing in search bars. She gets jealous if I am using the phone and proceeds to parade back and forth on my keyboard to direct attention back to her adorable self. “Strange stuff appearing in the search bars” is a frequent result of her little parades.
LOL...
I’m glad somebody said it. Always wondered why that t(ing is there.
No ‘one’ though.
Yes I have had that issue. I was logged in.
‘1’ is the loneliest number you’ll ever do.
input type="text" name="s" size="20" value="*" class="text" onfocus="this.select(); site_search_focus(1);" onblur="site_search_focus(0)"
Sounds like, that asterisk is being replaced by a "1".
Clear caches, cookies, history, and maybe site pref. data.
I had the same problem recently, and tried two other browsers. They worked fine. I discovered that I had to change a setting in my browser, Brave, but I’m sorry to say that I forgot what it was. You need to go through some of your settings to discover what.
Reply 30 . . . and quit the Internet browser, quit other applications, restart your computer.
It’s the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Try clearing yout browsing
history.
Thanks for the constructive advice. I did all of the above and it still does it. I tried using a different browser than the one I always use for FR and it still does it even though I’m not logged in.
For whatever reason the browsers automatically add “/tag/1/index?tab=articles” to “https://freerepublic.com“. Even a browser I’ve never used for FR and without being logged in.
the following is the default forum link for Articles:
https://freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?tab=articles
The following link will work sometimes (note the “1” replacing the asterisk):
https://freerepublic.com/tag/1/index?tab=articles
. . . but otherwise the involvement of the “1” may result in an FR page with a message:
“Your query returned no results.”
Same for Comments:
https://freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?tab=comments
https://freerepublic.com/tag/1/index?tab=comments

This “new FR feature” began within the last 7 days. I was wondering why.

Try - go to:
https://freerepublic.com/perl/settings
And change all the settings.
Fiddle with FR pages, Articles tab, Comments tab . . .
Then go back and adjust those setting to what you prefer.
When I was working in electronics and we had something weird like that, we’d blame it on invisible dendrites.
The fix was to blast the malfunctioning item with compressed air, to blow away all invisible dendrites.
Usually worked. Give it a try, your keyboard could probably use a cleaning anyway.
AKA “tin whiskers”.
The only time I show my asterisk is when I’ve had too much to drink.
