The footage appears to show the groups outside the Voodoo Room on the historic Sixth Street of Austin's entertainment district.
The altercation seems to start when one woman grabs a phone out of the hands of another and a Marine tries to intervene.
Then, a man in a white long-sleeve shirt attempts to throw a punch at a different Marine and misses, as a group of his fellow military men rush to his defense.
While some Marines try to separate the men as they curse at each other, tensions seem to escalate and an all-out brawl begins.
The civilians and Marines exchange blows and several are knocked to the ground as Austin Police and Texas Highway Patrol officers start to break up the fight.
Bystanders cheered on the Marines, who appeared to far outnumber the civilians in the quarrel.
One man is heard chanting, 'USA! USA!' as officers work to break up the fight.
At least one man is seen being detained on the video. By the end of the video mounted police arrive and sirens are heard off camera.
In July, the Austin Police and Texas Department of Public Safety resumed a partnership to increase the police presence and deter crime on the popular downtown bar street.

“Massive brawl” - LOL! A couple guys throwing punches. Broken up quickly. Send them all home with a warning.
The non-Marine landed a few more punches, but they had no effect. The marine’s punches wobbled and dropped his opponent. The whole thing was a nothing burger.
Geez Louise. I hope the Marines involved are not in trouble. That would be terribly sad over a stupid phone. My son is in Marine bootcamp right now. I hope he stays out of the bars.
One fat black woman caused the entire thing. What a, um, surprise.
Marines in Dress Blues and wearing medals...where are their Covers ?
I thought the same thing. Where are their covers?
What are covers?
I had a military dad and my older brothers all did a stint, but I’m not well versed on military stuff...they were all AF.
From what I’ve read prior, and I’m not sure the reason, I didn’t think Marines were supposed to be in uniform in the civilian world. I definitely could be incorrect.
Say, isn’t that a scene in a number of movies?
Nevermind I found my answer on Google:
Marines can wear their dress uniforms off base, they can’t wear their fatigues, but in some cases they can, only if they are married and live off base, but only to their place of residence.
Stripes comes to mind!
Cover = hat. While outdoors your head should be covered at all times.
I went to a relatives wedding at one of the funky-stylish venues close to Downtown Austin. Stayed at a downtown hotel. The so-called entertainment district sucked. Bunch of noisy bars with almost no edible food, trashy venues, bad sound systems played too loud — hell I found better spots in lousy New Orleans.
Unfortunately the Marines were not allowed enough time to instruct these oxygen thieves on the advantages of civilized human behavior.
Thanks. Trying to get up to speed on the lingo.
“”Marines in Dress Blues and wearing medals...where are their Covers ?””
That was strange. Had there been an earlier ceremony somewhere? I didn’t see any Marines of any higher rank than one stripe and CERTAINLY not any that looked to be in good physical shape.
Video shows the moment a nasty fight broke out between a group of uniformed Marines and civilians outside an Austin nightclub
There was a bigger brawl on the football field this week...................
