A California woman is being treated for 'multiple traumatic injuries' after being hit by a driver at a San Francisco intersection before becoming trapped underneath a Cruise driverless vehicle for 30 minutes.
The woman, who has not yet been named, was strolling through downtown San Francisco when she was hit by a sedan near the corner of Fifth and Market streets around 9:30pm on Monday night.
Footage taken by the Cruise vehicle and viewed by NBC, revealed how the car hit the woman in the left lane, throwing her into the path of the Cruise taxi which then ran her over. The sedan driver then fled the scene.
First responders found the woman trapped under the autonomous vehicle, which had not been transporting any passengers at the time.
Shocking footage posted to social media shows the victim's feet sticking out from under the white vehicle while a first responder checks on her.
Footage shows police officers attempting to communicate with the trapped woman, with one officer kneeling on the pavement and shining a light under the car.
Other officers were seen directing traffic and securing the scene.
Firefighters arrived and alerted Cruise to the situation by blocking the vehicle's sensors.
Representatives from Cruise responded to firefighters and 'immediately disabled the car remotely' San Francisco Fire Department captain Justin Schorr said Monday night.
Firefighters then used the 'jaws of life' to lift the car off the woman who was then transported to San Francisco General Hospital with 'multiple traumatic injuries,' Schorr said.

The Wicked Witch of the East was featured in the film The Wizard of Oz (1939), in which she is the sister of the Wicked Witch of the West. As in the book, she is killed when Dorothy's house falls on her.
The Wicked Witch of the West was not pleased with Dorothy for the death of her sister. Before the Wicked Witch of the West can claim the magic footwear, the Wicked Witch of the East's stockinged feet curl up into stumps with striped socks, and they disappear under the house and the shoes are transposed to Dorothy's feet.
In the original book, the Wicked Witch of the West showed no remorse for the death of her counterpart in the East, nor was she noted to be related to her in any way. She was only interested in the magic footwear (Silver Shoes in the book; Ruby slippers in the 1939 film).
