Three Texas police officers have been charged with the murder of a 46-year-old woman who was having a manic episode and was cutting wires to her apartment building's fire alarm system.
San Antonio police sergeant Alfred Flores, officer Eleazar Alejandro, and officer Nathaniel Villalobos were the three officers involved in the June 23 incident.
The woman, identified as Melissa Petez, was experiencing a mental health crisis around 2am on Friday, officials said. Bodycam footage captured her yelling and at one point holding a hammer.
'It appears Ms. Perez was having a mental health crisis,' the police chief said.
The officers who arrived at the scene first attempted to help Perez and walk her to a patrol unit, but she ran back inside her apartment and locked the door and the situation escalated.
Officers tried to speak to her through an open window, but she threw a glass candle at the one of the officers, the police chief said.
Two officers were seen leaping on top the patio area while Perez was holding a hammer and swinging it inside the home in the direction of where the officers were standing.
The hammer ended up hitting and shattering one of the windows but none of the officers appeared to be hit by the hammer.
One of the officers responded by opening fire, but it doesn't appear that Perez had been hit by the round of bullets.
She then attempted to go back outside where the officers were standing, with hammer in hand, and that is when the officers again opened fire and she was fatally struck by gunfire

This is not a tough situation.
The cops were not in immediate danger. She had a hammer inside her home. The cops were outside.
One opened fire and the other two joined in.
Had that been three civilians doing the same thing it would be very clear that they were wrong. Nice to see cops held to the same standard for a change.
I stand with you two and prefer liberty to the currently prevailing police state.
Cops with stars on the collars and a dozen stripes on their sleeves are comical.

Were they reprimanded for not shooting the dog?
When it comes to emotionally disturbed people, the first rule is “isolate and contain.” If this woman was alone in her apartment, I don’t see a need to open fire. Just hang back and call in SWAT to wrap her up. If she tries to flee or attack, that’s a different story.
Kinda hard to harm a cop with a hammer when he’s in the other side of a wall, as well. This was a bad shoot, and the first shots pretty much green-light other cops on scene to go hot.
Admittedly, the article is short on facts and the body cams aren’t evident. Obviously, there are a lot of facts not in evidence. I mean, I wasn’t there. So, I probably shouldn’t have said that the cops were “justified.” However, I have to ask myself what I would have done, if a crazed woman had run out of her house at me with a hammer? I’m pretty confident that a “career” police officer (Sergeant) with fourteen years of experience, wouldn’t risk his career and (certainly not his liberty) just to shoot some crazie without justification. That’s illogical!

I used to think they were our friends too, till I had some bad experiences with cops. Now, I don’t want to deal with them. Record them and take the 5th. They are not your friends.
There is bodycam video on YouTube. She is as inside her home, standing far enough back from the CLOSED storm door that she is not visible in the video. The nearest officer was standing on her front porch, at least three feet back from the CLOSED storm door, and fired through it.

She never left her house. They shot her through the door.
What color panties you wear and what size dress? A man would just take the hammer away from her. But to you Police, the answer to everything is a bullet.
