I’ve Smoked Pot Every Day for 9 Years — Here’s What it’s Like to Quit
New York Post ^ | 3/28 | Erin Keller

A 22-year-old content creator and model is getting real about withdrawal symptoms she said she’s experienced since she stopped smoking marijuana two months ago.

Suede Brooks from Las Vegas made a viral TikTok on Sunday in which she claimed to have gone through a pound of weed every three months while smoking every day for nine years.

“Thought I would open up a bit,” she captioned the clip, which has sparked over 2.3 million views. “For the longest time, I never thought I had a problem with it until I realized the amount of money that I was spending … and if you smoke weed, you know how much that is.”

Several people in the ECM shop in our avionics maintenance squadron got busted for smoking pot. Top Secret clearance - poof - up in smoke and never getting it back.

When we went to drivers training at Bolixi, the ECM guy's break pad was diagonally across the street from ours.   We stood out there talking about the real secrets they must have been learning.

I have honestly never seen a study on marijuana usage that was anything above a glorified survey, as in “out of 20 people surveyed, 12 reported headaches after stopping their marijuana usage”.

As far as the motivations for negative claims go, most studies have sponsors, and those sponsors may want specific results in order to boost their own business. For example, marijuana is being used by a lot of people these days medicinally for various things like as sleep aid or a pain reliever (marijuana is a known anti-inflammatory, and inflammation causes a lot of pain) so a certain industry that makes pain killers might be interested in suppressing marijuana for such uses.

That’s not to say that marijuana doesn’t have negative effects at all. Of course it does. The loss of motivation and ambition can be quite real for chronic users, and I wouldn’t be surprised if chronic users lost a few IQ points. But a lot of the claims are pure hysteria or purposeful misinformation.

So you can say pot is good for you, but that's you, not everyone.

I never said that and would not.   That is why I have had no desire to get high in fifty years.

If you still claim you were addicted to Marijuana, what were your physical withdrawal symptoms?   That's right, there are none.

From this very article:

Brooks described the first week of her sobriety journey as “absolutely miserable,” thanks to cold sweats, vomit and disrupted sleep.

But different people react differently. I was also addicted to cigarettes and went through months of withdrawals after I quit. Others can quit and feel little or no withdrawals. That's all I can say about it.

Don’t know much about addiction.

That said, I know (an admittedly low number of) medical professionals and lawyers, truckers and accountants and elected officials, who regularly partake of alcohol and/or marijuana. Plus a lot of people who say they’d like to quit cigarettes but can’t.

Among the qualities they share, besides addiction:

1 indifference to the dangers — they drive, they don’t have smoke alarms in their homes, and they don’t worry about losing their jobs
2 they don’t get a lot of exercise, in fact most don’t get any exercise
3 they don’t eat sensibly.

If indifference and lack of exercise are caused by or increased by smoking, drinking, and/or drugs, that’s a bad thing. A very bad thing. You can kill somebody with a car, you can burn down your house by passing out with a lit cigarette. No exercise, and eating garbage, will get you if the poison-of-choice doesn’t do it directly.

But, some people just don’t realize they want to live, until they’re told they’re terminal.

They’re in denial. And they can’t manage denial without chemicals.

It’s a plant that can be grown. The business is on its way to commoditization.

“I don’t see why I should have to smoke pot.”

What about our needs?

Everything about Weed(THC) is bad but everything about Hemp(CBD) is good. THC is only good internally for pain. THC externally is good for chronic arthritis including weather-related pain. I use it topically. I have been growing marijuana for a couple of years. It’s not good enough to smoke so I converted it to oil and rub it on problem ligaments twice a day.
CBD is great for sleep.

An awful lot in this article that’s pure BS. A lot of comments appear to be somewhat unenlightened. As in all things we lean to our personal experience. I’ve drank enough whisky to float a battle ship, smoked more weed than a tractor trailer could hold, snorted enough coke to fill a wheel barrow. Never had a problem putting any of it down. But I kissed a girl and haven’t been able to give that up. A best friend was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer and the chemo was killing him in a different way that was nearly as bad as the cancer. Until his brother visited a him from a state with medical weed. My friend started using weed with his chemo and started gaining weight and improving in many ways, both mental and physical. I had a lot more quality time with my friend thanks to weed and I would never deny anyone access to it. I’m not the only one with this experience.

” I smoked weed everyday for 27 years and quit cold turkey on Christmas Eve 2014.”

Me too. I quit smoking weed because was trying to keep weight off and its hard to do when you have the munchies. Its psychologically addictive but not physical.

Quitting cigarettes was a real challenge. Nicotine is as addictive as heroin.

2-3 a month I take a state-legal THC gummie just before bed. I get relief from the arthritis and a good eight hours of sleep. most of the rest of the month I’m lucky to get six hours at best.

Due to my cardiologist recommended aspirin therapy I can’t use NSAIDs. I’d use gummies more often but moderation seems wise

Claiming “addiction” is a BS excuse for not taking responsibility for your actions. It doesn’t mean it is not your fault.

Yes it has an effect. Everything had an effect. Drinking water affects your focus (usually positively, but not if you cant find a bathroom)

But to say the effect of sugar (unless you are a severe diabetic) or caffeine is somehow equivalent to THC is disingenuous.
