Garcia, the former mayor of Long Beach, tweeted that he will take the oath on an original Superman #1 comic from the collection of the Library of Congress.
The self-described 'Comic Book Nerd' will also place his hand on top of his Naturalization certificate and a photo of his parents. He lost both of them to COVID in 2020.
'Will be proudly sworn-in to Congress on the U.S. Constitution. Underneath the Constitution will be 3 items that mean a lot to me personally. A photo of my parents who I lost to covid, my citizenship certificate & an original Superman #1 from the @libraryofcongress,' he wrote, with a smiley emoji and one of the American flag.
But before any House members can take the oath, House Republicans must sort out a bitter internal feud to elect a speaker, something they were unable to do Tuesday. Another Superman fan, former President Donald Trump, publicly threw his support to embattled Rep. Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday.
Earlier, a reporter had tweeted an image of the classic comic along with a long line of keepsakes that other lawmakers brought, including the usual collection of family bibles

Comics?
Congress is a Joke.
A gay Peruvian congressman. A comic book does seem appropriate.
I.m going to ask Library of Congress if I can check that comic out as well, so should a million others.
I wonder if the atheist Garcia (swearing in on a comic book speaks volumes) will bring his gay ‘husband’ with him for the ceremony.
He did nothing as mayor of Long Beach. Totally useless. Actually just two accomplishments, got the taxpayers to fund a rainbow lifeguard tower, and reportedly ordered the police to stand down while BLM and others burned and looted the city on May 31, 2020 during the Saint George Floyd mayhem.
Just out of curiosity, can The Speaker Of The House refuse to swear in an elected Representative?
And a George W Bush guy too
From way back
The Ashos have taken The Hill in the District of Corruption. This silly sh*t is a friggin’ clown show.
Not surprised. The Democrat congressman is merely showing his allegiance to illegal aliens (Superman).
He is purposely making a mockery of the oath of office.
I thought traitor McCain told us that illegals are God’s children and can’t be criticized....
The country’s descent into a totally ludicrous and Gomorrah-like chaos is now complete...
Never, in our country’s history, has the character, intelligence, honesty, and patriotism of our supposedly-elected political establishment attained these current levels which are lower than those of a pack of monkeys swinging in jungle trees...
The Marxists/communists have done their job well and should be congratulated for the victory in their 130-year battle to destroy the United States of America and create a communist utopia...
Question? What did George Washington swear in on his oath of office on? I would think it most appropriate for all elected national leaders to swear upon the same and then take an oath to defend the constitution as written and only changed by constitutional amendment as needed. The Constitution must only be changed by Constitutional amendment and not the whims of political judges on the supreme court. If they can do this, we have no constitution.
Per the late and great scholar of constitutional law, Scalia. The only thing wrong with a living constitution is it will destroy the constitution.
You get the government you deserve.
DemonRAT? More like him have just invaded our nation and the only ones who will profit from their illegal invasion are the damn dirty evil satanic rats. VOTES.
That gave me an idea, if I was ever to win a seat in Congress: swear on a Bible on top, with Atlas Shrugged underneath.
The secularization of society is its downfall.
It would have been more appropriate had he sworn the oath on a Mickey Mouse comic book.
