Recalling Jesus’ birth in a stable, Pope Francis rebuked those “ravenous” for wealth and power at the expense of the vulnerable, including children, in a Christmas Eve homily decrying war, poverty and greedy consumerism.
In the splendor of St. Peter’s Basilica, Francis presided over the evening Mass attended by about 7,000 faithful, including tourists and pilgrims, who flocked to the church on a warm evening and took their place behind rows of white-robed pontiffs.
Francis drew lessons from the humility of Jesus’ first hours of life in a manger.
“While animals feed in their stalls, men and women in our world, in their hunger for wealth and power, consume even their neighbors, their brothers and sisters,” the pontiff lamented. “How many wars have we seen! And in how many places, even today, are human dignity and freedom treated with contempt!”
“As always, the principal victims of this human greed are the weak and the vulnerable,” said Francis, who didn’t cite any specific conflict or situation.
“This Christmas, too, as in the case of Jesus, a world ravenous for money, power and pleasure does not make room for the little ones, for the so many unborn, poor and forgotten children,” the pope said, reading his homily with a voice that sounded tired and almost hoarse. “I think above all of the children devoured by war, poverty and injustice.” […]
“Jesus was born poor, lived poor and died poor,” Francis said. “He did not so much talk about poverty as live it, to the very end, for our sake.” …

The disciples had sponsors.
Please define that phrase.
He makes proclamations from an estate filled with millions of dollars of treasures.
King James Bible says they traveled to Bethlehem to pay taxes...
Well, assuming that to be the case, that is.
That would make everyone in Judaea homeless though, having to have been uprooted to register in one’s birth town.
A pregnant underage girl? Mary would have been taken by CPS and placed in a foster home, Jesus would have had his spinal cord snipped during a partial birth abortion, and St. Joseph arrested and taken to jail.
Says a megalomaniacal Marxist!
This isn’t going to set with with Pelosi.
OTHER FALSE NARRITVES...
Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were not homeless.
The Wisemmen were not at the Manger. They finally arrived two years later to fulfill the prophesy concerning Herod ordering the slaughter of babies two years and younger.
Jesus may have been middle class- BUT- He and God chose many very very rich people to represent God- All this preaching against riches just sounds like jealousy and self righteousness- God’s word even talks about working hard and prospering as a result and reward for the hard work- The trick is to not allow it to rule oneself- don’t allow $$ to become a false god
I agree - the wise men were the ancestors of those who had studied under Daniel in Babylon - and they had kept track of the prophesies as recorded in the Book of Daniel. Over the years they new the record, therefore they KNEW when the Messiah was to be born and showed up to worship him. And they brought gifts suitable for burial - they understood why he had born. Which was more than could be said for the “wise men” in Jerusalem.
Are you serious? What about Jesus as the ruler of the Universe do you not understand? HE is the Light of the world.
I’ll see what I can find as well but in the bible it talks about the travels of the Magi getting Herod’s attention and one of the things the paper talked about was that the Jews and Magi had butted heads in the past and it was more likely the Magi were a well armed, group of travelers, not three guys roaming the desert.
Yeah.
I am.
